ENOCH of New Jersey e-Newsletter
January 2010
From the President’s Desk
Recently,
my wife was cleaning out papers from our ENOCH files. As she was going
through it, she found the very first newsletters when they were run off
on mimeo paper! That seems ancient to some but I remember mimeograph
machines.
As she read them to me, we were amazed at what the
purpose of the newsletter was to do: to encourage and build up leaders
throughout the state of New Jersey; also, to keep you informed as to
what ENOCH was doing.
Today, we no longer make printed copies,
but are on the web and sending it out to as many homeschoolers as
possible. We have a website and now a FaceBook page where we try to
keep things up to date and fresh. We offer the GPA SmartStore for folks
trying to save money by purchasing at discounted prices. Things have
changed over 20 plus years.
Time has passed, but our vision
hasn’t changed. ENOCH still has a heart for homeschoolers. We want to
be able to provide information to you as it comes to us; to offer an
annual convention for everyone’s benefit; to encourage leaders at the
local level to press on in their jobs as leaders; etc.
2009
brought about changes to our Board. We lost some valuable members who
had added to our lives, both as a Board and personally. We face
challenges in 2010. There just aren’t enough of us to go around to do
all that we have to or want to. But I KNOW my God. I know He
will
carry us through. He will encourage us. He will provide. He is
faithful. He will not forsake us. He holds the future in His hands. And
I know He holds our hands.
So, be encouraged this new year.
Don’t be overwhelmed with what the future may hold. But look at the One
who holds your hand and knows the future.
Happy New Year from our home to yours,
Richard Millward

Encouraging Words
IS
THIS THE
YEAR?
Written by Bob Ponchot, Director of South Jersey Evangelism
With
more than 300 references in the Bible concerning the second coming of
Christ, Christians can’t help but ponder the question: Is this the year
Jesus will return? He clearly taught that he would return. He said in
Revelations 3:11, "I am coming soon." Jesus said in Hebrews 9:28, "So
Christ was sacrificed once to take away the sins of many people; and he
will appear a second time, not to bear sin, but to bring salvation to
those who are waiting for him." He is not coming to die on a cross.
That was finished almost 2000 years ago. His redemptive sacrifice is
history. But He is coming for those who are in Him and eagerly await
His return.
The word for 2010 is as it has always been: "Watch and
pray!" As many in our world continue to de-Christianize society, it is
extremely needful for God’s people to uphold His Name and His Word.
There is much work to be done by the church, but we have the Power to
do it! All the "giants" of this world are no match for those who have
genuine faith in the Living God. Romans 8:31 affirms, "If God is for
us, who can be against us?"
And so as we enter this new year, I
challenge us all to be all that we can be for our Lord and to position
ourselves at the front of the battle. The battles are not over, but the
outcome, the victory, is certain. The infinite, all powerful, all
knowing, and Righteous God will bring victory to those who have
gathered at the foot of the cross. Is this the year Jesus will return?
I don’t know. But I hope so. "He who testifies to these things says,
‘Yes, I am coming soon.’ Amen. Come, Lord Jesus." Revelation 22:20.

ENOCH EVENTS
ENOCH Winter Fun Days
First Snowfall of the Year Whets My Appetite!
Sue August
There’s
nothing like the first snowfall of the year to get me in the mood for
skiing! How frustrated I was that I was snowed in at home in
South Jersey! I couldn’t help thinking how great it would
have
been to be in the Poconos. To see some great photos from
Shawnee
Mountain, use this link:

room for the little ones to run around and play.

ENOCH Annual Homeschool
Convention – Update
By Sue August
Even
though you’re probably not thinking a whole lot about the ENOCH
Convention yet, some of our volunteer staff members are!
Here’s a
quick explanation of what’s new and exciting for 2010.
• This year the convention dates are May
14-15, 2010. Mark your calendar now!
•
Free admission for Parents of Preschoolers – Parents whose oldest child
is Age 5 or younger get in free if they register online. Part
of
ENOCH’s mission is to spread the word about the advantages of
homeschooling. By offering free admission to Parents of
Preschoolers, we’re hoping to make it easy for these young parents to
explore the advantages of homeschooling. ENOCH needs your
help! You are the ones who can get the word out to these
families. Look around your neighborhoods and churches and be
sure
to invite families of young children to register for the convention –
free of charge! David Hazell, of My Father’s World, will
present
a special series of workshops geared especially for these families.
•
Back by popular demand, we’ll have Historical Happenings presenting our
Children’s Program. They will offer 3 two-hour sessions this
year. The other 2 two hour sessions are tentatively being
planned
to have a science emphasis.
• Keynote Speakers will be Steve and
Terri Maxwell and the rest of the Maxwell Family, and Rebecca Powell.
•
Still in the works – Our Speaker Coordinator is working on putting
together a special Teen Track. More details will be in
upcoming
issues of the ENOCH e-newsletter.
We’ll keep you posted via this e-newsletter as more of the details for
the 2010 Convention get firmed up.
