ENOCH of New Jersey e-Newsletter
June 2010
From the President’s Desk

Dear Friends,
First, I want to thank everyone who made this year’s convention a
success: our volunteers (some who have worked for months), speakers,
vendors and, of course, the homeschoolers of New Jersey. We
had over 1,400 attendees, which was the highest number in recent
years. We had well over 150 “Parents of Pre-schoolers” who
came to hear workshop speakers, look at curriculum and I hope they
spoke to “veteran” homeschoolers, and discovered -
“Yes, I can homeschool my
children”. It was at one of ENOCH’s
Homeschool Conventions at Fountain of Life Church that my wife and I
resolved that we would homeschool our children. Talking with
many people over the years it was at that convention that others
decided to homeschool. Ken Ham was the keynote speaker.
The ENOCH Board is busy planning next year’s convention. Pray for us as
we are contemplating some changes. It takes plenty of time and money to
put on the convention, so if you are thinking maybe I could help with
the convention in even a small way, please e-mail me at
president@enochnj.org.
Every little bit helps. You do not need to take on one of the “big”
jobs, but there are many small jobs to do that we have needs
in. In addition, everyone can pray for us. That’s a “big” job
that everyone can do.
On a personal note, our oldest daughter, Abigail, graduated from high
school. This was a bittersweet experience for both my wife and me.
Abigail was only three years old when we went to our first ENOCH
convention. Now, thirteen years later, she has matured to a lovely
young lady with a heart to serve others. I am thankful for God’s grace
and mercy enabling our family to take this journey. We are not finished
yet. I cannot wait to see what God has for us in the future.
Now that “school” is winding down for many of us, take advantage of all
that New Jersey has to offer. Glance at the “Field Trip
Guide” that was in the convention program. When you visit one
of these locations, let them know you saw it in our “Field
Guide”. Get out and enjoy what New Jersey has to offer.
Have a great summer,
In His Service,
Rich Millward

Encouraging Words From Homeschoolers Across the Nation
Words of Encouragement
for Our Graduates
By Toni DiGiovacchino
Graduation
is a time of reflection, a time of reward, a time to set new goals for
the future. May we all stop for a moment and recognize all of
the
homeschool graduates who have worked so hard to achieve this momentous
milestone.
Congratulations
to all our Homeschool Graduates, and their parents, from
all of us at ENOCH!
As
parents we tend to do most of the reflecting.
Remembering
when our homeschooling journey began for our child. We
reflect
back on the choices we made and the times we questioned ourselves, “Is
this really what God wanted us to do?” We reflect on the
courage
and perseverance He gave to us to accomplish the goals He placed before
us. We realized we were doing exactly what He wanted us to do
all
along. We reflect on the struggles and rejoice in all the
blessings that came along with them. What
seemed at
the beginning to have no end, now proved to be a short journey which
has left us longing for more time with our child. Let the
Lord’s
promises fill your heart. He promises in Proverbs 22:6,
“Train a child in the way he
should go, and when he is old he will not turn from it.”
We, as homeschooling parents, have been called to accomplish this in
all aspects of our children’s lives. What a great privilege
to
serve Him by homeschooling our children.
A time of
reward awaits us all when we enter into His presence. Our
graduates will receive another reward for their recent accomplishments,
perhaps a certificate of achievement or a High School
Diploma.
Our 8th grade graduates will start a new journey as they enter into the
High School years. As for our High School graduates, they
will
finally have that documentation that tells the world, “I did
it!”
May they seek the Lord for the next steps as they make plans for the
future. Jeremiah 29:11 is a familiar verse frequently used at
this time of year,
“For
I know the
plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans to prosper you and not
harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.” Read the
rest of that passage along with your children as the Lord continues to
instruct us in verses 12-14,
“Then
you will call upon me and come and pray to me, and I will listen to
you. You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all
your
heart. I will be found by you, declares the Lord.”
Even though we choose to encourage our children with certificates and
diplomas as a rite of passage at this time of year, let us also choose
to encourage them with the promises of God. Colossians 2:2-3,
“My
purpose is that they may be encouraged in heart and united in love, so
that they may have the full riches of complete understanding, in order
that they may know the mystery of God, namely, Christ, in whom are
hidden all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge.”
New
goals, new journeys and new challenges await our graduates, may they
seek Him with all their hearts as they go forth. Pray for
them
and with them about their futures. Continue to teach them
about
what the Lord requires of them and of the wonderful rewards that He has
in store for them. Throughout His Word He speaks of wisdom,
knowledge, plans and rewards. As they begin the next stage of life,
encourage them with this prayer from Philippians 1:9-11,
“And
this is my prayer: that your love abound more and more in
knowledge and depth and insight, so that you may be able to discern
what is best and may be pure and blameless until the day of Christ,
filled with the fruit of righteousness that comes through Jesus
Christ-to the glory and praise of God." May the
Lord lead you and your graduate to a bright and beautiful future in Him.
ENOCH Audio Lending
Library Review
Who Can Lead? – ENOCH’s Audio Lending Library
Mike Smith, President of HSLDA talks about the leadership qualities
found in Joshua from the Old Testament. Also, if you've never
heard the historical account of how homeschoolers across the US shut
down the switchboard at the White House in a quest for freedom, Mike
Smith recounts it in all its glory! To request this
recording, go to
ENOCH’s website and ask for #121.
If you didn’t get to attend as many workshops as you would have liked
at our 2010 Convention, you can purchase CDs or mp3s from our website.
Recordings from our 2009 Convention will be available in our Audio
Lending Library by the end of this summer!
ENOCH EVENTS
The 2010 Annual
Homeschool Convention – From a Different
Point of View
By Sue August
Convention Coordinator
Most of you attended our Convention a few weeks ago, so you already
have a perspective on our Convention as an attendee. If you
talked to your friends, then you probably have their perspectives as
well.
Once the Convention is over, I receive lots of emails from our
Exhibitors. I’m amazed that they take the time to write since
the Convention season is so busy for them. Picture, traveling
from state to state and hauling hundreds of pounds of books with
you. Each weekend, you stop at a different convention center
and unload your truck and set up your display. Then you spend the next
2 days on your feet, talking to thousands of homeschooling
families. Just when you’re about ready to drop from
exhaustion, you need to load up all your belongings and hit the highway
again.
Now that you have an idea of what an Exhibitor family’s life is like,
here are some of the things they said about the ENOCH Convention and NJ
Homeschoolers. I’m sure it will increase your appreciation of
the Exhibitors that participate in our Convention.
“So
far I've enjoyed the medium size conventions like yours the best
because the attendees aren't so frantic trying to get their shopping
done, so we can truly fellowship with them. We were able to do that
this conference more than ever. I don't know if that was because they
had more time to shop so they didn't feel as much pressure to hurry,
but many people had time to come back and visit multiple times.”
“We
consider our efforts successful if income exceeds output (economic
reasons) and if we seem to be able to have an impact on homeschool
families (spiritual reasons).”
“We weren't sure about the distance to Enoch (took us about 8
hours their and 9 hours home using a different route) but when I saw
your statement of faith, that you actually believed in the preservation
of scripture I got very excited and said that we had to go to your
convention.”
“ It has been a process for us not to think so much about sales, but
instead to strive to do God's will in loving and blessing the saints
around us, and to witness to unbelievers at the conferences. We purpose
to do those things in prayer before the conventions, and to the degree
that we walk in the spirit and not in the flesh is the chief way in how
we judge our success.”
“We do some larger conventions, and a few smaller, but the ENOCH group
is special, and we always get such excellent response.”
And this from an attendee, turned Exhibitor!
“We attended our first
Enoch Convention in 2005. My wife was pretty sure to
homeschool, but I was rather skeptical. Your conference
inspired me, calmed my fears, answered my questions, and gave me the
confidence to proceed. We plunged in that first year with our
6th and 4th graders and have been blessed ever since! Over
the years we have brought along 2 other families to inspire them to
Homeschool. We always use your conference to
purchase our curriculum, be inspired, answer our questions, and to
think and reflect on what we are doing.”
So, NJ Homeschoolers, thank you for attending our convention and thank
you for being a blessing to our exhibitors as well!

and Josephine's essays in future newsletters.
What will I be doing
when I am 25 years old?
By
Abigail
Antenucci - Age 6
When I am twenty five years old, I will
be meeting a man at
church. He will be a good man. He will
have a great job. I hope it is a good job, but if it is a bad
job that is okay. He must be a good father. He will
want to have a wife. That will be me. I will be his
wife and I will have children for him and I will marry him, and I will
love him with all my heart, and I will adore him and care for him and
pray for him. And we will go to church together and have a
good time. We will love each other forever. Our
children will be loving to one another. We will adore them
forever.
I want to write books about
God. I want to be with my
children and write books. When I write books I can go around
and sell them to people and my children can follow me on their
bikes. I want to teach people about God. I want to
tell them that he loves us.
I think I will have a dog and a
cat. I think I will be pretty
tall when I grow up. I think I will have 6 or 7
children. I will take a taxi to the mall. I will
eat at a Chinese restaurant with delicious food and have a good
time. That would be fancy.
I would like to take my children to the
store and buy food for my
husband. I would buy coffee for him. If
my children act bad in the store I will drive them home and put them in
their beds. I would make beef for dinner if it was St.
Patrick’s day. I would teach my children good things and
protect them.
I will have the fanciest gold car
ever. My mom and dad will
be a grandma and grandpa and love my children. I hope people
will think I am good and peaceful and tender and funny, responsible and
gorgeous. I will make breakfast for my children and lunch and
dinner. If God wants me to take them to school, I can take
them to school, if God wants me to homeschool them then I will
homeschool them. At the mall I can buy icecream for my
family. Me and my husband will stay up and watch
movies all night. When he is at work, I will clean the house
for him. I hope my children will be gods little
children. I will watch my children play outside. I
think I will have the best life ever.
