Encouraging Words For Homeschoolers Across The Nation

Conventions are Near - Should I Go?

Many years ago now, I thought I did not need to attend a homeschool convention because I felt that I already knew what I was doing and what I wanted to continue doing. I didn't want to go and be persuaded to change my ways or my curriculum. So I skipped a year.

Within months of the conference I became discouraged and needed refreshment. Oh yes, that's why I went before! I was always refreshed and had my vision strengthened by attending. Although I knew what I was doing, I lost sight of why I was doing it.

When we lose sight of the "why," then when discouragement or tedium hit, we crumble. Because, face it, we are doing a lot of work in the face of lots of opposition. It takes strength and courage to continue, and we can find both when we renew our vision by attending a convention. You will not regret making the effort to attend.
Besides renewing our vision and drive for homeschooling, there are many other benefits to attending a convention:

Dr. Samuel Blumenfeld, renowned author and homeschool conference speaker wrote an article entitled, The Boom in Homeschool Conventions, in which he summed up the benefits of conventions this way: "I could write a book about these wonderful homeschool conventions, the families that attend them, and the fabulous entrepreneurs who offer their products to parents who truly care about their children's well-being and happiness. If you want to see the beautiful benefits of educational freedom, go to a homeschool convention. You'll love it!"

Let's support our homeschool conventions together, as we praise God together and thank Him for the continued freedom to keep our children Home Where They Belong.

"I will give thee thanks in the great congregation: I will praise thee among much people." Psalm 35:18

Join the Homeschool Bands of Southern New Jersey! No experience necessary!

Does your child have an interest in learning to play a musical instrument? Would you like them to learn in a fun, encouraging environment with other homeschool students? If so, the Homeschool Bands of Southern New Jersey may be just what you're looking for! Based on the commitment to help homeschool students ages 8 to 18 grow musically, HSBSNJ is the only band performance group of its kind in South Jersey.

We start by teaching younger students, age 8-10, how to play the recorder. From there, students are given a lot of help in determining which band instrument (woodwind, brass, or percussion) is best suited for them. New instrument students in our Beginner Band are taught their chosen instrument in a group setting, and are encouraged to improve weekly through healthy competition. Students who are already proficient with an instrument will find a place in our Concert Band where they work alongside experienced adults who add a level of professionalism to the group. Students who qualify are eligible to audition for Honors Bands including Olympic Conference Band, All-South Jersey Band, and All-State Band.

One more reason to consider joining Homeschool Band. Did you know that students of the arts continue to out perform their non-arts peers on the SAT? Pretty impressive. Be a part of it!

We meet Monday afternoons in Camden County. New students are welcome in fall 2013. For more information check out our website www.homeschoolband.org

Guitar Lessons Via Skype!

My name is Jeff Feldman and I'm a guitar instructor who teaches students around the world via Skype. I teach several homeschoolers, and one of my students recently suggested I tell more homeschooling groups about my services.

I'm also running a deal this month: Four lessons for just $59 (I've attached the flyer for the deal to this email).

Students and parents seem to like having affordable guitar lessons from the convenience, comfort, and safety of home. Plus, if your organization has any community music activities, I've taught a number of people to learn and perform songs with their friends, families, and communities.

If you'd like to learn more about me, my credentials, and to read frequently asked questions and testimonials, I invite you to visit my website: www.CreativeSparkGuitar.com.

Thank you so much for your time. I'd be immensely grateful if you would forward my offer on to your other members, or anyone else you know who might be interested in learning to love playing guitar.

Attend a FAITH Center Information Session and Tour

Do your homeschool plans for next year look anything like this?

  1. Round out my kids’ academics with some incredible fine arts offerings.
  2. Calm our schedule down by scheduling special activities for all of my kids in one place, on one day.
  3. Look for classes taught from a Christian worldview.
  4. Be a good steward of the financial blessings God has provided to my family.

The FAITH Center offers all this and so much more!! What is the quality of the instruction provided? Just ask some of last year’s seniors who are now majoring in Musical Theater, Art, Music Education, and Theater at their colleges of choice.

The FAITH Center, founded 20 years ago by Bill and Lori Briggs, offers homeschooled students of all ages professional instruction in the arts with a focus on exploring and developing talents to glorify God. Whatever your reason for seeking professional instruction in the arts from a Christian perspective, the FAITH Center may be your answer to prayer.

There is something for every member of the family at the FAITH Center, from preschooler through high schooler. In addition to private and small group instrument lessons and bands and orchestras for beginning through advanced students, there are dance classes where honoring God is just as important as learning the steps, both traditional and computer art, drama, several different choirs divided by age, small group voice lessons, a fully staged spring musical, a new video production seminar class, and more. (Not all classes are available at each location.)

Tours are currently being scheduled at both our Morris County and Sussex County locations for families interested in attending the FAITH Center for the 2013-2014 year. This year, there were far more families interested in attending the FAITH Center than spaces available. We were forced to close registration to the program as a whole, something we had never had to do before. If you’re interested in learning more about the FAITH Center and discerning whether it might be a good fit for your family, please visit the FAITH Center’s website, www.faith-center.com to learn more about our program. Don’t wait until the summer to look into our course offerings; it could be too late! Would you like to attend an information session and tour? Email info@faith-center.com.

Mark McVey.

The 2013 camp, hosted at the Sparta Evangelical Free Church, will run from July 22 through August 4, with performances scheduled for August 2 – 4. Auditions, by appointment only, will take place the evenings of May 7 and the mornings of May 11.

FAITH Center’s Continuing Success Causes Growing Pains -Can you help?

FAITH Center’s Continuing Success Causes Growing Pains –
Can You Help Us Find a Location to Further Expand Our Ministry?

For the first time ever, the FAITH Center had to close registration to additional families this past summer. According to Bill Biggs, Founding Director, “The Lord sent so many wonderful homeschooling families our way, all looking for an opportunity for their children to develop talents to glorify God. I wish we had room for them all, but we didn’t. It seems like we might need to consider expanding our program again. God has truly blessed this ministry.”

Thank you to those who have responded to our request for suggestions for locations for additional FAITH Center programs! We are prayerfully exploring all possibilities. If you have a connection with someone who makes decisions about the use of a large building with multiple classroom spaces that might make an ideal location for expansion of our ministry in northern or central NJ, please contact us at 973-252-5043 or info@faith-center.com. We are blessed to support the growing and flourishing homeschool community in New Jersey.
