ENCOURAGING WORDS

IF I HAD MY LIFE TO LIVE OVER

A True Story Written after Discovery of Terminal Cancer – By Erma Bombeck

I would have talked less and listened more. I would have invited friends over to dinner even if the carpet was stained and the sofa faded.

I would have eaten the popcorn in the "GOOD" living room and worried much less about the dirt when someone wanted to light a fire in the fireplace.

I would have taken the time to listen to my grandfather ramble about his youth.

I would never have insisted the car windows be rolled up on a summer day because my hair had just been teased and sprayed.

I would have burned the pink candle sculpted like a rose before it melted in storage.

I would have sat on the lawn with my children and not worried about grass stains.

I would have cried and laughed less while watching television and more while watching life.

I would have gone to bed when I was sick instead of pretending the earth would go into a holding pattern if I weren't there for the day.

I would never have bought anything just because it was practical, wouldn't show soil or was guaranteed to last a lifetime.

Instead of wishing away nine months of pregnancy, I'd have cherished every moment realizing that the wonderment growing inside me was the only chance in life to assist God in a miracle.

When my kids kissed me impetuously, I would never have said, "Later, now go get washed up for dinner." There would have been more "I love you's" ... more "I'm sorry's" ... but mostly, given another shot at life, I would seize every minute ... look at it and really see it ... live it .. and never give it back.
__________

ALWAYS STRIVE BE A SPECTACULARLY BRIGHT LIGHT IN THIS VERY DARK WORLD!  --
There is only one life to live...  Live in such a way as not to have any regrets...
Only what is done for Christ will last for all eternity!

THE BIBLE

We believe that the Bible is the inerrant, inspired word of God - the final authority for all truth and practice. In other words, it is God’s handbook for life. 2 Timothy 3:16-17 (NKJV) tells us, “All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness, that the man of God may be complete, thoroughly equipped for every good work.”

NEEDED LEGISLATIVE LIAISON

We are looking for a person or two who would serve as a liaison for HSLDA and ENOCH in serving the homeschool community and the politicians in Trenton. Liaison should possess knowledge in the legislative process in New Jersey, including how a bill is introduced, the hearing and voting requirements of the N.J. Assembly and Senate, as well as the governor’s final approval. Liaison must also be familiar with the regulatory agencies and law in New Jersey where such agencies or laws could have an impact on home education. These include the Department of Education, the Division of Family Services, and the Child Advocate’s Office. Other responsibilities would include: interfacing with HSLDA regarding legal threats to homeschooling freedoms in New Jersey; communicate to the ENOCH board regarding any local, state, national or international threats to homeschooling freedoms; communicate in writing – clearly outlining any threat to home education along with any recommended actions; communicate orally – to testify at Senate or Assembly hearings, and as needed with regulatory agencies; to recommend to the ENOCH board how and what to communicate to the public, including the press, regarding home education and any bills or laws related to homeschooling in New Jersey.  Contact David West at president@enochnj.org.

UPCOMING EVENTS

ENOCH FAMILY CONFEFRENCE

On Saturday, October 27, 2018 ENOCH of NJ will be hosting a one day "ENOCH Family Conference", featuring an experienced and very accomplished and well known homeschooling speaker, Israel Wayne. This conference will be for the whole family to participate in.  We have also included an exciting children's program for your little ones.  There will be various workshops and topics that would greatly benefit the homeschooling families of New Jersey.

Location:
Calvary AG Church
242 Shunpike Road
Springfield, NJ 07081

This is an Inspiring and Encouraging event that you do not want to miss out on!

Children’s Program (Ages 5-12) - $12 for up to 2 children -  $6 each additional child.
(Spacing is limited for children’s program, register early to guarantee a spot for your child.)

Regular Registration:

Couples - $40.00
Adults - $25.00

We at ENOCH are encouraging you all to add this date to your calendars, and spread the word.  This will be a time of Encouragement and Refreshment for the entire family. See details below.

WORKSHOP TOPICS:

Homeschooling: Preference or Conviction?
Why do you homeschool? When your children are grown, what will define success for you? What is a Biblical philosophy of education? This workshop will help you to focus on what is really important. Israel will share with you what has helped his family avoid burnout and frustration in the many years of homeschooling.

Helping the ADD / ADHD Child
If you have a hyperactive or easily distractible child, you won’t want to miss this informative and sometimes humorous message that shares stories from his experience as an ADHD child himself. You will receive practical and Biblical insights into ADD/ADHD and will be encouraged that there is hope for your child!

How Can I Know What is True?
There is a common skepticism today about knowing anything with certainty. It is assumed by many that if you claim to know something in an absolute sense that you are arrogant. How do Christians respond to this challenge? Can objective truth really be known and defended? This will be a thought-provoking and engaging session.

How Can I Defend My Faith?
This workshop teaches you how to defend the Christian faith in a postmodern culture. The term, Relational Apologetics, describes how we are to communicate objective truth in a way that is truly loving. It demonstrates where the Church has been ineffective in evangelism and apologetics and what changes we should make. Learn to be gracious absolutists!

The Power of Affirmation
When you are trying to inspire and motivate children, there are two forces that are often exerted: Positive and Negative Reinforcement. In this session, Israel explains the importance of Affirmation as a way to inspire and motivate your reluctant child. Drawing from practical and Biblical examples, this session will help you to keep those important relational connections as you are attempting to impart knowledge.

Israel and his wife Brook were joined in marriage without dating and share their testimony of God’s faithfulness on an audiobook titled, What God Has Joined Together. Israel and Brook, both homeschool graduates themselves, are home educating their nine children.

Israel desires to see God’s people learn to think and live Biblically.

Aiming for both the head and the heart, Israel’s goal is to challenge audiences to take every thought captive and make it obedient to Christ. In his words, “God’s Word applies to all areas of life. There is not one facet of our existence which does not fall under the direct claim of Lordship by Jesus Christ. This includes how we spend our money, what entertainment we consume, how we educate our children, how we use our time, etc. All of life must be understood from within a Biblical worldview.”

An invitation for Home School Families to join us

CODE WIZARDS HQ

Code Wizards HQ prepares kids (ages 10 and up) for success in the digital world by teaching them how to code (no prior coding experience is required).  Their online coding approach combines the ease and convenience of online classes with the benefits of teacher-lead instruction.  Plus, their curriculum is based on hands-on learning.

So how does Code Wizards HQ work?

CodeWizardsHQ is a comprehensive online coding program that uses project based learning (which I LOVE) to teach kids how to code. The program is beginner friendly and requires no prior coding experience. (However, if your child has some coding experience, she might be able to join at an intermediate point based on her demonstrated skill level. The site can work with you to find the right starting point for your child.)

The program starts with the basics and progresses towards building complex websites, apps and games. 70% of class time is dedicated to writing code (hands-on) using real-world languages like HTML, CSS, JavaScript, Python, etc.  Learning these languages is a good next step if your child has been enjoying Scratch, Minecraft, or Code.org – and is ready for a more structured coding education.  Class projects are built around popular subjects like Pokemon, Snapchat, Taylor Swift, Michael Jordan etc. – all designed to keep your child interested and engaged.

And kids make their own personal websites as they learn how to code.  How cool is that?

Classes are for 1-hour a week and your child receives an assignment to complete on his/her own between classes. In addition, every lesson has an accompanying quiz that the student takes. Assignment grades and quiz scores are made available so students can self-assess their progress towards certification and parents can track their child’s progress. Additional projects and activities are available for students to explore based on their interest and time availability.

·         Coding teaches kids how to think. Learning to code teaches kids how to take a big-picture problem, break it into smaller chunks, form a plan, execute the plan, learn from their mistakes, fix them, complete the task, and have something to show for it.

·         Coding is a safe, fun way for kids to take risks as it creates an environment where kids can take chances, fail, correct, and try again, without catastrophic consequences.

·         At the same time, coding teaches children the value of getting things right the first time. As kids take chances in their safe environment, they develop a sense of the effort and frustration of doing it over and over again to get it right. They naturally begin to realize that if they’re careful and get details correct the first time, they can progress toward their ultimate goal faster and with less frustration.

COLOSKY MATH ACADEMY

My name is Corey Colosky and I am a high school math teacher trying to help the homeschool community. If I can get enough people interested, I will be offering virtual math classes starting in the summer of 2018 and then again during the 2018-2019 school year. The format would be like a webinar where the class is live and the students can interact with each other and with me as the teacher. I would like to keep the price at $100 for the entire course. I was hoping that you would simply share this information with members of Educators Network of Christian Homeschoolers of NJ so I can see who is interested and which classes they are interested in. Here is a sign-up form. Filling this out does not commit you to anything, but it informs me that you are interested. https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/GV8BKM3

If you or members have questions, please don’t hesitate to ask. I am working full-time as a teacher so please be gracious if it takes me a few days to respond to your emails.

I do already have Geometry and Algebra 2 courses completely online if you want to check it out also. This is different than what I am offering with the virtual classes because the virtual class would be live lessons.

HOMESCHOOL TESTING SERVICES

As you know, there are many growing needs for homeschoolers and we feel testing is an important one.  Homeschool Testing Services knows there are many opinions on testing.  We believe testing should not define a child, but it is important to use it as a tool so we can learn more about our children and where they stand academically.

We would love to help you meet this need.  You are able to go to our website to learn more: www.homeschooltestingservices.com.

Would you consider allowing our website link to be listed on your page as a resource to walk alongside families that choose to homeschool?

Some questions many families have that we’re open to answering:

Why should I test?

There are many reasons:

- First, your state may require it.  Homeschool Testing Services can meet that need.

- Second, you are able to use it as a tool to gage where your child is with other children their age.

- Third, it will teach them test taking skills that are needed to better prepare them for college entrance exams such as the SAT and ACT.

What tests do you offer?

We offer the CTP (1st-10th grades) and Stanford.  The Stanford can be completed either online (grades 3rd-12th), in the comforts of your own home, on your computer or onsite (grades K-12th), where your child will go to a nearby location with other students and test in a classroom setting.

When should we test?

Homeschool Testing Services is available from February through mid-June.  Most families test between the months of April and mid-June as an end of the year assessment.

I would be more than willing to talk to you about this more if you have any questions.  Please see my signature below if you’d like to call me. I look forward to hearing from you.

PIANO – ANYBODY CAN PLAY PIANO

It is called “Anybody Can Play PIANO” and is available at Microsoft Store and Google Play.  (This app is the culmination of nearly 50 years of teaching/supervising tens of thousands of students nation-wide.)

I homeschooled my 5 children about 40 years ago so I know how great it is to have proper tools for education.  Learning to play a musical instrument (particularly when begun at a very early age) benefits the brain in phenomenal ways - benefits that transfer to many other subjects.    However, this usually means outside lessons, tuition costs, lots of time, supervised practice…..

Now parents can give their children this advantage at home. The app not only teaches how to play songs on the piano keyboard, but proper piano fingering and how to read music notation as well.

This app can be used independently by children as young as 3 but is also totally appropriate in its presentation for older beginners……even adults.  To view a video showing function of the app just click on https://youtu.be/ACsT105ZEWs  To view a video showing a couple older children working with the app click on https://youtu.be/w8FnF_Uh10E  There is more information plus free resources on my website: www.anybodycanplay.com

Some have asked me, “A dollar ninety-nine a month?  What’s the catch?”  There is none.  My goal has always been to give the gift of music to as many as possible, so I made the price low.

Thank you.

PIANO AND OR VOICE LESSONS

My name is Peter Meerwarth (Mr. Pete) and I am interested in teaching piano an/or voice lessons to home schooled children during the school day.  I currently own and operate an arts school in Allentown, NJ called MILL POND ARTS (www.millpondarts.com)

WE currently offer art lessons to homeschoolers. I am Certified to teach K-12 music in New York State where I taught at my alma mater for 10 years.  After that, I went into church music at the Allentown Presbyterian Church for another 10 years.  I started Mill Pond Arts five years ago.  We currently employ 7 finger-printed teachers in piano, guitar, voice, and piano and teach over 100 music lessons each week.

I mainly use the Alfred Basic piano method for my younger beginners using various hands-on approaches to experiencing music: tactile-eye/hand coordination exercises, ear training, dictation, training in theory through computer flash cards and work books, all with corresponding lesson and performance pieces.  A more complete list of musical concepts will be provided to parents with each year of lessons.

If you would like to speak further, please give me a call at 609-903-6560.  References and Resume available upon request.

 Thank you for your time.

 Sincerely, Peter Meerwarth

CHARATABLE ENDEAVORS SCHOLARSHIP

Hello, I am the ambassador of the charitable arm of our institution and handle all current philanthropic endeavors and……  I’d like to help the students of your school!

Our Scholarships

Primary: $5,000 & $2,000 Awarded Tri-annually

Scholarship Application Page

Our Organization

Our organization will help by providing additional funding in the form of a scholarships for exceptional students and those in the in the greatest need of funds to complete their scholastic journey. We even allow multiple students from the same institution to win awards simultaneously and students may apply multiple times up to 6 times per year with an allotted 2 application attempts per trimester.

“If a little assistance would help keep a bright young mind from falling through the cracks, please tell us where and how our donations can do the most good?”

Our Mission

We’d like to ensure that students in the greatest need and who are truly exceptional are provided the funds necessary to graduate so that society as a whole does not miss out on what could be world changing developments simply because an amazing mind could not afford to complete college.

Your Institutional Funds

I know as an educator you must also feel the loss of a great mind. Such great potential, limitless yet unknown squandered whenever any student falls through the cracks. Especially the most exceptional ones. Those who could have done so much. We are aware that in this situation everyone loses, the student and society as a whole. We now all miss out of the potential plethora of benefits possibly forged through reaching their full potential. Our goal is to contribute to the growth of society as a whole. We would like to ensure exceptional students receive support without the added stress of additional debt. Students can use the scholarship proceeds as needed under their own authority and will maintain complete financial autonomy. However, if you’d like we can contact you whenever a student from your institution is awarded $1000 or more so you can provide them with the financial counseling necessary to make clear financial decisions and ensure that the funds are used appropriately.

The Abridged Simple Scholarship Outline

In our efforts to create a better future for society as a whole and to impact the lives of those who deserve it we have pledged to give both $5000 and $2000 dollar scholarships three times annually. We plan to disburse funds amongst many other smaller awards for exceptional students, students in dire need, and those who submit applications above and beyond the minimum requirements. We have listed below a short synopsis of each award we intend to provide to the selected winners

1.      Primary - 1 primary scholarship of: $5000 equates to $15000 per annum

2.      Secondary - 1 secondary scholarship of: $2000 equates to $6000 per annum

3.      Needs Based - Needs based awards for those with great applications and in great need

4.      Performance Based - Scholarships for truly exceptional students with amazing applications

5.      Merit Based - Multiple merit based awards are also given to those who go above and beyond the application minimums and show the most promise as an overachiever. Therefore, Identifying themselves as those most likely to succeed or most in need due to the amount of effort put into garnering the award whether its dire need or an undeniable sign of excellence.

There is still hope for students that they don’t qualify for the primary award. If parts of their application or actions relating to it are exemplary we can actually garner a scholarship that rivals the primary and secondary awards.

Total annual contribution of 25,000 to 35,000 dollars per annum

We have 1 simple request: Awareness of the Scholarship

Please make your students aware of the program in some way our application pool has been extremely small and we’d like more applicants especially from specific schools that show the most promise.

Thank you for your time please respond with your thoughts and how to move forward

Again, please send a response with how to move forward to provide funding to your students. Also include, how you plan to make students aware of the opportunities and who we are to contact when a student wins over $1000. We would like for the institution to provide proper financial guidance to the winners. It is important that they are well educated on finances to ensure the funds are being used to complete school or beneficially in some way. The goal of having what we call a “Cash Mom” is to ensure a $5,000.00 scholarship is used to keep a great mind focused on continuous growth and expansion or further research they are conducting, We respectfully request that you provide a path that will be beneficial to their long term goals. It would be very disappointing if $5000.00 doesn’t end up as designer clothes, jewelry, sneakers and so on.

P.S

We’re always looking for a better way algorithmically but very often a human touch is more valuable. If there is anything we should know about your students, their needs, or the institutions needs please respond with those along with any paperwork required to issue funds to your institution or its collegiate constituents.

Also any feed back regarding the content or presentation of this correspondence, the scholarship page, or other ideas of what would be most impactful if invested in. Please respond with your thoughts, ideas, impressions, criticism, other causes, other ways to help students. Please don’t be shy we would love your input on all of our material. Nothing is too small or too big. From grammar and typo’s, to overall messaging, to formatting, to the entire design or layout of any of our materials.

Please be vocal and unafraid to respond brutally with honest opinions. We have very thick skin and an amazing design and writing department. Anything can be modified. We want to increase our application pool and develop strong ties with participating schools to further serve the needs of the students in great need. Our goal is to improve and expand our application base thus ensuring we can help the best and brightest and propel them to true greatness!

Lyceum Scholars Program at Clemson University, a unique $10,000 scholarship for incoming freshmen to study the moral, political, and economic foundations of a free society.  We have found that homeschool students are excellent candidates for the Lyceum Scholars Program and a number of our current Scholars come from a homeschool background.

Lyceum Scholars take eight classes together as an intellectual cohort during their undergraduate career. They read the Great Books of Western Civilization and discuss timeless questions such as:

· What makes a society free?

· What makes a society prosperous?

· What are the principles of the American Founding?

· The Lyceum Scholars Program recreates the substance and value of a traditional liberal arts education that is sadly missing from many of today’s colleges.

More information about the Program is available on our website and students may apply here.  I am also happy to answer any questions you might have. All the best as you begin this new school year,

TUTORING – DYSLEXIA SPECIALIST

Tutoring for students struggling in reading in the Sussex, Warren, and Morris County areas. I am a certified special education teacher as well as a certified Orton Gillingham Teacher and Dyslexia Specialist.

I would like the opportunity to be considered for any students in your district who may be in need of multi-sensory private tutoring or instruction. This is the time of year when parents are seeking reading instruction for their child and there are only a few certified Orton Gillingham teachers in the area.

This past school year I have had the opportunity to work with many dyslexic students and parents. I currently am working with some students privately after school for one-on-one reading and decoding instruction using the multi-sensory approach and have found it to be a great experience. The students have gained confidence and improved in their decoding and fluency skills. Last school year I was employed by the Sparta Public Schools for one-on-one tutoring for a sixth grade student. From there I was asked to teach in the districts summer enrichment program for students who were in need of multi-sensory instruction in grades three through eight.

From my education and classroom experiences, I have gained a strong knowledge base in determining best practices for testing, screening and setting up program instruction. I have also been available to help parents understand more about Dyslexia and what they can do as parents to foster their child’s education.

I am currently enrolled in the Dyslexia Specialist Certification Program through Fairleigh Dickinson University in the evening. On completion of this program this spring, I will be able to be of more assistance to parents, teachers and administrators in regards to teaching and implementing the programs set forth for Dyslexia from the state of New Jersey. I will also be the only certified Dyslexia Specialist in Sussex County.

Enclosed you will find my resume, certificates and business cards to pass on parents and Child Study Team members. Please feel free to request my references for your review. I look forward to working with your teachers or parents to help their children crack the code of reading to become stronger, life-long learners.

Sincerely yours,

Mrs. Kathy Diaz,
