December 2009

From the President's Desk

Desk

"Marley was dead, to begin with." This is the opening line to my favorite story at Christmas. Of course it does not come close to His story that we celebrate this time of year, the birth of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. But I am partial to Charles Dickens. My favorite movie version is "Scrooge" with Alastair Sim, my wife prefers the George C Scott version, but I enjoy them all, even the one with Mr. Magoo.

My point is not to go on about why I love "A Christmas Carol", but to bring out a point that is further on in the story.  After Scrooge's nephew leaves Bob Cratchit lets in two portly gentlemen looking for donations to "make some slight provision for the poor and destitute, at this festive season of the year".  To which Scrooge sends the men on their way without even a pence.

Let us fast forward to Christmas 2009 and consider those who are less fortunate than us at this "festive time" of the year, as the gentlemen called it. Last year instead of buying presents for our adult family members, we bought chickens.  Live ones!  They were for families in other countries less fortunate, who had real needs.  There are several organizations that offer this and you can choose one.  But there is another worthy organization that we should support - The Homeschool Foundation.  This organization is part of HSLDA, and gives grants and support to homeschool families that are in need.  The foundation provides funds to families who may have experienced the loss of a parent or the loss of a job.  They do this so that the family may purchase curriculum and continue to homeschool.

Consider giving to The Homeschool Foundation, in memory of someone who recently died or in honor of recent homeschooler, maybe a simple donation that will help someone who you may never meet. You can learn about them at http://www.homeschoolfoundation.org/ .

Continue to pray for ENOCH at this time.  Plans for the next convention are already in the works and we need more board members as well as volunteers.  We could not function without your help.  If God puts it on your heart to serve with ENOCH, feel free to contact me directly at (JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address).

From my family to your family - may you have Blessed Christmas and a Happy and Healthy New Year!
