LEADING OFF

From the President’s Pen

It’s hard to believe that we are already into the second month of the New Year and spring is only six weeks away.  I always enjoyed the winter growing up - the cold and snow.  While away at college I lived in the snow belt of New York State and would spend weekends at my roommate’s parents’ house in the Adirondacks.  Talk about the cold and snow, snowshoeing at -20°F is quite an experience.  But, before you know it, the snow will be gone and the crocuses will be poking their heads out of the ground.  It’s a great opportunity to take the kids outside and have some impromptu science lessons.  But for now enjoy the snow.

Just a few reminders for this month:

NHERI/HSLDA Survey – Thank you to all who have responded either through the mail or by e-mail with your children’s test results of their standardized testing.  If you have tested your children but have not sent in their results, please do so soon as possible.  We still need a few more test scores to meet the minimum need by NHERI for an accurate study.  You can visit the ENOCH website for further information at http://www.enochnj.org.  Also, if you received an e-mail in January from one of ENOCH’s Trustees, Ray Stoever, it contained two specific questions that need your response. Please be sure to reply to it.  Brian Ray of NHERI, needs the information for statistical purposed.  Again, thank you for those who have responded.

ENOCH Convention – It is not too early to start thinking about ENOCH’s 19th Annual Convention.  The ENOCH Board is actively planning for another great convention.  So don’t forget to mark your calendars for May 29th and 30th. There are various needs that ENOCH has for the convention. Anyone interested in serving should contact Sue August, our Convention Coordinator, at (JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address) .

GPA SmartStore - Please be sure to click the link at the top of our newsletter and register for your discounted pricing.  The GPA SmartStore not only benefits you, but ENOCH as well. Thank you.

I would like to thank everyone who came out to ENOCH’s Winter Fun Week and to Sue August for organizing the event.  A good time was had by all.

Forgive me for going on but there is one more thought.  ENOCH has a number of opportunities for service and we need your help.

1.      Secretary for ENOCH – this person would be responsible for working with the Board, recording minutes and working behind the scenes.

2.      Regional Reps. - ENOCH is looking for a married couple to serve as Northern Regional Reps.

If you are interested in serving in any capacity, please contact me directly at (JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address).

Thank you and God bless you.

Richard Millward

President

ENOCH-SPONSORED EVENTS

19th Annual ENOCH of New Jersey Homeschool Convention

This year’s convention will be held Friday and Saturday, May 29-30, 2009 at the Raritan Center in Edison.  This is NOT Memorial Day weekend.  Make your plans now to attend.  The most current information regarding the convention can be found on our website at http://www.enochnj.org.

Never Been There, Never Done That

Convention Coordinator Sue August provides an update on this year’s convention. This year’s convention is May 29-30.  Save the date!

Never been to ENOCH’s Annual Homeschool Convention?

         Brand new to homeschooling?

         Not even sure about homeschooling?

ENOCH WANTS YOU…to benefit from the convention.

All first time families to our convention will receive a $20 rebate (per family) at the door.  Here’s all you have to do.  Pre-register for the convention on ENOCH’s website beginning in mid-March.  When you arrive at the convention, come to the ENOCH table to collect your $20 in cash!

Veteran convention attendees, here’s how you can help us in our mission to minister to first timers.  Think about the first timers you know.  Print the convention flyer from ENOCH’s website and hand it out to first timers. Let them know how they can benefit from attending the convention.  When they pre-register, have them mention your name as a referral.  At the convention, come to the ENOCH Table to personally collect you ENOCH Buck (a $3 value that can be spent at the convention).

You might think we’re crazy to be giving so much away, especially in this economic climate.  However, ENOCH’s primary focus is not on increasing its profits.  ENOCH’s primary focus has always been to support and equip homeschooling families in New Jersey.

We’re trusting God to help us meet our expenses regarding our convention as we seek to glorify Him by extending a welcome to those who have never attended our convention.  We’re excited about how God is using homeschooling are we are already praying for those new families that God is adding to our number!

Convention ’09 Children’s Program News Flash!

Children’s Program Coordinator Rosemary Laberee outlines this year’s new, and different, children’s program.

We are pleased to announce a new Children’s Program at this year’s ENOCH Convention.    Historical Happenings will be offering a series of workshops that will include Civil War soldier life, games played in the 1800’s, the life of the British soldier during the American Revolution, and arms and armor of the Crusading Knights!  All of these fun workshops will feature hands-on activities and crafts.  Stay tuned for more details!

Mark your calendar now for this year's Annual Homeschool Convention, May 29 and 30.  Plan to bring your 4-12 year olds along for fun and learning with Historical Happenings.  Registration opens mid-March.  Space is limited.

A Welcome Break in the Routine!

Board member Sue August filed the following report on the recent annual ENOCH Winter Fun Week.

ENOCH’s 2nd Annual Winter Fun Week was a great time for homeschooling families!    Shawnee Mountain designated January 12-16 as Homeschoolers’ Week.  Through ENOCH, they offered discount prices that were about 1/3 of their regular season prices.  With many families tightening up on their budgets, Winter Fun Week may have been the only affordable vacation they could manage this year.

ENOCH’s pricing structure offered homeschooling families what they love best: flexibility!  Some families stayed for the whole week, others for just a few days and some came just for a day trip.  Discounted area lodging allowed families to choose a simple hotel room or a condo that sleeps 6 at a resort with an indoor pool.

Besides winter fun, moms and dads who didn’t brave the slopes, enjoyed fellowship with one another at the ski lodge.  The free WI-FI in the lodge, made it possible for them to travel with their families and still keep up with some of their daily responsibilities.  Other moms used the time to catch up on their own personal reading.

If you’ve never considered a family winter vacation, please give it some thought. You might be pleasantly surprised. Shawnee Mountain and ENOCH have made it very, very affordable!   Dates for 2010 will be announced in a future issue of this newsletter.  Homeschoolers now have the remedy for cabin fever!

ENOCH’s Audio Lending Library: Raising Pure Daughters in a Generation of Darkness

Sarah Mally presents a workshop on Raising Pure Daughters in a Generation of Darkness.  She is a homeschool graduate who has a heart for helping girls walk in purity.  Speaking from her own experience as an unmarried young adult, Sarah shares how girls can reject the world's model of dating and set their eyes on God during their single years.  To order this CD, go to ENOCH’s website and follow the links for the Audio Lending Library.
