ENOCH of NEW JERSEY e-NEWSLETTER
January 2009
TABLE OF CONTENTS
From the President’s Pen
Greetings!
I hope that your holiday was exciting and relaxing. This time of year always seems to be a fast paced time. I pray everyone set aside some time to contemplate the greatest gift given to man.
Here at ENOCH we have been busy planning future events and working on current ones. I thought that my note this month should be one short and to the point. Listed below is the items of which I wish to remind you.
GPA SmartStore - This was an endeavor that ENOCH began a few months ago. Please be sure to click the link at the top of our newsletter and register for your discounted pricing.
NHERI/HSLDA Survey - You should have received an email from HSLDA or ENOCH stating the procedure to mail in your scores for your children. You can visit the ENOCH website for further information at www.enochnj.org. I am grateful to the many homeschool families who have responded. Please keep this coming. We look forward to having the survey completed quickly so that Brian Ray can “get his hands on it” and do what he needs to.
ENOCH Winter Fun Week – ENOCH’s annual Ski Week at Shawnee is planned for January 12 – 17th at Shawnee Ski Resort. Please be sure to register. There is more information on it in the newsletter and on our website.
Thank you all for your support for ENOCH this year. We have faced a number of potential obstacles but our God was faithful and provided for us. Our Board wishes everyone of you a happy and glorious New Year. Maranatha!
In His service
Richard Millward
President
19th Annual ENOCH of New Jersey Home School Convention
This year’s convention will be held Friday and Saturday, May 29-30, 2009. This is NOT Memorial Day weekend. Make your plans now to attend. The most current information regarding the convention can be found on our website at http://www.enochnj.org.
Convention Exhibitor: Learning through Play with SimplyFun (Including Job Offer)
The following is from 2009 ENOCH of NJ Convention exhibitor, Jane Campagna.
The Academy Of Pediatrics recently published a report titled "The Importance of Play in Promoting Healthy Child Development and Maintaining Strong Parent-Child Bonds". In this report they reaffirm that the most valuable and useful character traits that will prepare children for success come not from extracurricular or academic commitments, but from a firm grounding in parental love, role modeling and guidance. The report focuses heavily on the power of healthy play in developing strong bonds between parents and children, as well as the important life skills that come from play activities.
SimplyFun, a leader in family, teen and adult games believes strongly in the importance of play for families today. In fact, our mission is to promote the importance of play and create lifelong memories that enhance the quality of life for our customers, consultants and employees. At SimplyFun we want to change the world by encouraging each person to take thirty minutes to simply play. To take time each day to do some enjoyable activity with the people who matter most in their lives.
Games are a great way to enhance a child’s learning experience. You can reinforce the academic skills learned in a fun and creative way. SimplyFun has many games that will help develop language, math and critical thinking skills all while having fun. Your children will be having so much fun that they will not even realize they are learning. Our complete product line can be viewed at http://www.janecampagna.simplyfun.com
We have been fortunate to have a booth at the annual ENOCH convention for the past two years. Unfortunately this year we have a scheduling conflict and are looking for individuals who would be interested in becoming a consultant and representing Simplyfun this year at the conference and help spread the importance of play to more families. For more information please contact Jane Campagna at 908-684-8454.

ENOCH’s Winter Fun Week: There’s Still Hope for Those Who Missed the Deadline!
You still have time. Board member Sue August encourages your participation in this year’s ENOCH Winter Fun Week.
It’s not unreasonable to think that with all the excitement of Christmas, you forgot to register for ENOCH’s Winter Fun Week. Or possibly, you were hoping to receive some gift money from relatives that you could spend on winter sports.
Even though the deadline for pre-registration was Dec. 29, you can still join us at Shawnee Mountain in the Poconos. All you have to do is email (JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address) before you arrive. Look over the registration form (http://www.enochnj.org/llink.cgi?newurl=/pdf/winter_reg2009.pdf) and email the following info: Name of each individual, date of arrival and package type. Then just calculate the total amount due and either bring a check or exact change to the mountain. When you arrive at Shawnee Mountain, look for the ENOCH registration desk in the Trepp Lodge.
ENOCH has made this kind of vacation affordable by partnering with Shawnee Mountain and nearby hotels and resorts. On January 12-16, homeschoolers from all over New Jersey can ski, snowboard and stay overnight at steeply discounted rates. This program has something for everyone! If you've never skied/snowboarded before, just come for at least a day trip and give it a try for as little as $50 including equipment rental and a lesson (regularly priced at $100). If you're already a winter fun enthusiast, come for multiple consecutive days at even better bargain prices.
Area lodging will welcome homeschoolers when you mention the ENOCH discount. Options include hotel rooms from $55-$99 or discounted timeshare resort condos and townhouses (sleeps 6) for just $129 per night. The timeshare resorts include access to indoor pools, hot tubs and game rooms.
Enjoy fellowship in the lodge with other homeschoolers. We had a huge section of the lodge pretty much to ourselves last year with lots of room for the little ones to run around and play.
For more details, price chart, registration form and FAQs, go to http://www.enochnj.org.
Please spread the word to all your homeschooling friends. Print the flier from ENOCH’s website and hand it out or post it where homeschoolers will see it.
See you on the slopes!
ENOCH’s Audio Lending Library – Skeptical About Homeschooling Through the High School Years?
Listen as a dad and his daughter talk about her homeschool high school years. Bob Loop was a real skeptic as the high school years approached, but his personal experience now has him convinced that the best place for your kids to spend their high school years is at home.
Request recording #226. To see the entire list of recordings available, go to http://enochnj.org/pagegen.cgi?opcode=lending.
Enoch-South Jersey Spelling Bee: Something for Everyone
Bryan
Heilman makes one last appeal before the January 28 event.
Have you ever
wanted to be in a spelling bee? Well now is your chance!!! ENOCH is holding a
spelling bee for South Jersey homeschoolers. There will be prizes, snacks,
ribbons, and more. We will be giving out three ribbons: one for first place one
for second place and one for third place. There will also be an award ribbon for
each 1st place winner for their grade level. Every spelling bee contestant will
receive a certificate of participation. The registration fee is only $5. The
more people that sign up, the bigger the prizes. There will be winners for grade
levels 5, 6, 7, and 8 grade, as well as an overall winner.
If you would like to enter in this year's ENOCH-South Jersey spelling bee (for 5th to 8th grade homeschooled students, please send a 3 x 5 index card with the student's name, grade, parents' names, phone, and email address with $5.00 (payable to Jack August) to: Jack August, 78 Skeet Road, Medford NJ 08055. The bee will take place at the Mount Laurel Library, 100 Walt Whitman Avenue, Mount Laurel NJ on January 28, 2009 at 9:45 AM. The first 25 registrants will receive a free Spell It! Booklet. If you are not sure whether you want to participate or not, sign up for support and guidance through a weekly email tip by emailing (JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address).
Come out and join the fun of being in a spelling bee. You might be thinking that spelling bee’s are for nerds and homeschoolers that spend all their time in a word book, memorizing words. Actually, you can spend a minimal amount of time each day on memorizing words. You don't have to read the whole entire Spellit book either. You can just skim through and look at the words you have problems with and then take a couple of minutes reciting them.
