Dear Homeschoolers of New Jersey,

This will be my last article for the newsletter. I am stepping down as President of ENOCH effective July 31st. David West will be taking over as President August 1st. David has been Vice-President for the past two years and also serves with his wife Jackie as the Central New Jersey Representative for ENOCH.

I have enjoyed my years serving on the Board of ENOCH, even with its ups and downs. My wife and I came on the ENOCH Board in 2002 as Central Jersey Reps. and started working at the conventions. We had the opportunity to be interim missionaries in 2004 for three months. With our children, we served with a children’s work on the island of Tortola in the British Virgin Islands. After we came back to the US, I worked at various positions at ENOCH’s conventions and then came back on the Board in April 2008 as President. I also became Chairman of the Board of Trustees of ENOCH.

Over the years I have seen the many changes in homeschooling in New Jersey. Here are some things I have noticed over the years:

  1. We went through a few close calls as the State Legislature tried regulating homeschooling in New Jersey.
  2. I have seen the decline in attendance at the conventions as the internet seems to be more and more the go to place for parents to buy curriculum.
  3. I have seen the decline of support groups due to all the social media sites replacing support groups.
  4. I have also met many amazing homeschool students and their parents over the years throughout New Jersey and across the country.
  5. I have been fortunate to spend time with leaders throughout the state, hear their concerns, endeavor to help with those concerns and reach out to the homeschool communities.

ENOCH has been a large part of my life for quite a number of years and now it is time for me to take a new path with my family.

Thank you all for your kind words, encouragement, insights, and more. My family and I are grateful to many of you. You have blessed my heart.

Taking a new journey with Him,

Rich Millward
President of ENOCH

Four Tools for Character Training

By: Lyndsay Lambert

A friend of mine once told me that if she was going to home school, she wanted to give her children things that they could not get anywhere else. I liked that, so I began to think about what that would be for my family. I decided it would be an education that incorporates scripture and character into all aspects of the curricula.

We believed that if we could teach our children to work with numbers, to read, and to write, and train them in character, they could educate themselves. How? They would have the tools and the desire, as well as the character needed to persevere. That does not mean we did not pursue academics; rather, we emphasized tools and character training as the most important part of schooling.

Character is moral or ethical quality. According to Character First, "Good character is the inward values that determine outward actions.” In practical terms, character is knowing what is expected and understanding why it is valuable to the extent that you are willing to do the right thing, even when no one is watching.

Why is character training important? Honestly, it makes everyone’s life easier. Think about it. If a person knows how to exhibit, for example, self-control, honor, contentment, and truthfulness, he will get along better with peers, he will be a better employee, and his parents will have more joy in raising him.

Also, our hearts’ desire was that all of our children would come to know Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior at an early age and learn to walk with Him. We all come to Jesus with “grave clothes,” so to speak—habits and qualities that need to be “taken off” in the new life. We regarded character training as a way to help our children develop qualities and habits that would ease the transition from unsaved to serving the Savior.

So what are the four tools?

The Bible

We believe that the Bible is the inerrant, inspired word of God—the final authority for all truth and practice. In other words, it is God’s handbook for life. 2 Timothy 3:16-17 (NKJV) tells us, “All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness, that the man of God may be complete, thoroughly equipped for every good work.”

One day while meditating on this passage, I noticed a progression. The Bible teaches us God’s way. Doctrine tells us what that way is, reproof tells us how we have gotten off the right path, correction leads us back to the path, and instruction in righteousness teaches us how to stay on the path.

Hello Friends,

We completed our 26th annual conference on May 21st. We had nine curriculum vendors and a number of speakers, including Susan Kemmerer and Heloise Ridley. We held the event in Springfield at the Calvary Assemblies of God Church and our attendance was about 300.

Many people were appreciative for the conference even though it was smaller. They thoroughly enjoyed the speakers and had a chance to spend real time with the vendors. In all the years we have done this, we always hear the good and the bad. This year was no different. I understand people were disappointed. But we just don’t have the attendees we used to. The vendors pay in order to sell their merchandise as they share information about it. ENOCH endeavors to encourage the parents through the speakers; to give out needed information, etc. That is the heart of ENOCH.

After the conference, our house is a wreck. I wish more folks could see what happens before and after in our home. Our girls know it is convention time because of all the boxes. What added to the mess was me being hospitalized just before the conference and being told I may need major surgery. Fortunately, that did not happen! Then, two days before the conference, I had to be at the church dropping stuff off and setting up; mapping out the exhibitor hall; staging various areas; etc. Following the conference, we had to put the church back in order so that they would be able to have it ready for Sunday. Now it was time to pack up, clean, and organize. There was a lot of work involved. Why am I telling you all this? Well, because people have no idea what happens before or after. We send out emails soliciting volunteers for the conference, including the before and after. Everything goes back to our house to be put away. But it sat out for a few days because we were bone tired. Now, after all that is said and done, and I have put my family through a rough few months, I will admit that I was not expecting an email that strongly expressed their disappointment in the conference. It hurt. I will confess. I am only human. I let it sit for a few days before I answered it. I felt I needed to address the issues put in the email.

We so enjoy serving the homeschoolers of New Jersey. We have done it for many years. But sometimes it’s tough. We cannot satisfy everyone. We would appreciate your prayers and support.

Serving Him,

Rich Millward
President of ENOCH

Keep Your Homeschool Grounded In Prayer

By Jan L. Burt

I don't know about you, but I will fall flat on my face and end in total failure and disappointment any day which I have not bathed in prayer. I just can't do this thing called life, this monumental task of home education, without the Lord's steady hand upon me. And I can only walk hand-in-hand with Him to the degree that I seek Him first in prayer.

If the hand the rocks the cradle truly is the hand that rules the world, then our world is in utter danger if those cradle-rocking hands are not folded in prayer to our Lord each day. Not to put too fine a point on it, but the actual truth for all mothers everywhere is this: we shape the future by the manner in which we raise our children today.

Here is a quote from E.M. Bounds on prayer and thanksgiving that inspires and challenges me:

"God does much for us in answer to prayer, but we need from Him many gifts, and for them we are to make special prayer. According to our special needs, so must our praying be. We are to be specific and particular and bring to the knowledge of God by prayer, supplication, and thanksgiving, our particular requests, the things we need, the things we greatly desire. And with it all, accompanying all these requests, there must be thanksgiving." - E.M. Bounds On Prayer

So, what about you today? Do you need some special gift from Him that will aid you in your homeschooling? Then make special prayer for that gift which you need! Don't delay, but get about the work of praying for what you need today! Be specific as you pray; request exactly what you need, what you desire. But be sure to give Him abundant thanks as you pray. Don't neglect being thankful! A grateful attitude is key in keeping our hearts properly aligned with our loving Father. Be careful as you pray that you don't act like a bratty, spoiled child. Rather, as Paul said, with thanksgiving make your requests known.(Phil. 4:6)

Pray today for your homeschool. For your children. For your wants and for your needs. For your husband. For your local church. For yourself.

We are most blessed when we are safely grounded in the Lord through prayer with much thanksgiving. We bring Him great glory when we live lives of thankful dependence upon Him alone.

HOMESCHOOL CONFERNCE SATURDAY, MAY 21, 2016

Friends,

This year's conference will have a more intimate and personal feeling to it since we will be no longer at the Expo Center. You will be able to spend more time with individual vendors discussing their curriculum and exploring options that you may not have thought about. Our workshop speakers will be readily available to speak with you as well! You will be able to spend time gleaning from our speakers such as Susan Kemmerer, Barbara Starosciak or Heloise Ridley and reap from their many years of experience and wealth of knowledge. Heloise Ridley will be having a workshop on how to begin homeschooling, so invite a friend who is thinking about homeschooling and go to the workshop together; you may be surprised by what little tidbit you may pick up that will help your own homeschool. Susan Kemmerer is introducing new workshops for everyone to enjoy! Check out all the workshops and their topics by clicking here.

REGISTRATION IS OPEN UNTIL MAY 8TH! Registration is $20 per couple and $15 for a single admission (13 and up). It closes May 8th. Walk-in registration may not be available do to the limited space at the facility, so don't wait to register or you may miss out. Click here to register.

CHILDREN'S PROGRAM This year's Children's Program has a great theme – F.R.O.G – Fully Rely on God. You can register your child on the Registration Page. Every year, ENOCH decides whether to offer this program and every year we are greeted with families who appreciate this time for their children while parents get into workshops and speak with vendors.

VOLUNTEERS Volunteers are needed to help run the conference. This year especially we need a clean up crew to help get the church back in order for their worship service on Sunday. When you register, please click on the button that says you want to volunteer. You can check out the volunteer positions and times by clicking here. If you missed your chance to choose, contact Gladys Harris at (JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address).

I hope you make the effort to join us this year. I look forward to meeting you there. Rich Millward President ENOCH of NJ

ENOCH EVENTS AND NEWS!

A special note to everyone - there will be open vacancies on the Board coming up this year. Some of our Board members will be retiring this year. If you are interested in serving homeschoolers, let us know!

Dear Friends,

ENOCH is excited to have Susan Kemmerer as our Main Speaker at this year homeschool conference, Saturday, May 21st from 9:00 AM – 6:00 PM at Calvary Assembly of God in Springfield. Susan has spoken at ENOCH’s conventions for many years and is always well received. She has much insight since Susan and her husband Dale have been homeschooling for over 25 years, seven of their nine children have graduated. Susan has authored a number of textbooks, including "Apples Daily Spelling Drills for Secondary Students" and "Research in Increments." She has had articles published in several homeschool periodicals, and has spoken at support groups leaders’ conferences and at homeschool conferences across the country. We have several other speakers who will also be giving workshops throughout the day. Keep an eye on our website for more details.

Registration for this year's conference opens March 1st, you can get to the registration website by clicking here. There will be no Early-Bird pricing and be sure to pre-register because there is limited space at the new facility. This year the pricing in $20 per married couple and $15 for individuals, ages 13 and above. As always, children are free! There is a separate fee for the Children’s Program. Because this is a smaller facility and there are stairs to get to the Exhibit Hall, the Children’s Program and some of the workshops we ask that you do not bring large strollers or wagons to the conference.

The Children’s Program this year is called F.R.O.G. – Fully Rely On God! There will have a morning session and afternoon session. The pricing will be $10 per child for the first two and then a reduced price for more than two per session. You can find out more information by going to the ENOCH’s Children’s Program webpage.

We need your help by volunteering. This year we have a few new positions, an Exhibitor Hall Monitor, Door Monitors and Parking Lot Monitors. You can check out all the positions at by going to our Volunteer Page on our website.

Here are some of the exhibitors Abeka, Christian Light Education, IEW, Teaching Textbooks, BJU and Schoolhouse Publishing.

Just as a reminder this year’s conference is not at the NJ Expo Center in Edison, but at the following location:

Calvary Assembly of God in Springfield, NJ

This will be a great opportunity for the parents of homeschoolers of New Jersey.

Dear Friends,

First I would like to wish everyone a Happy and Healthy New Year. As we go into 2016, let us make sure that we are going into the new year with the Lord and not just another new year. May this be a year when you and your family walk closer with the Lord. We all have good intentions, whether it is to read the Bible through in a year, reading the Bible more, spending more time praying or spending more time with the family. Let this year be different. Ask the Lord to help and keep asking when you don’t follow through.

Many of you are wondering about our 2016 Homeschool Convention. We are doing something different than in the past. The Board, after much prayer and consideration, have decided to do a one-day conference at a much smaller location. There will be a limited number of exhibitors and a smaller number of workshops. ENOCH needed to do this as a cost saving measure. It is no longer financially feasible to hold a two day convention at the large convention center that we have held it at for the last 12 years.

The 2016 Homeschool Conference will be held on May 21st at Calvary Assembly of God in Springfield, NJ, from 9:00 AM to 6:00 PM. More details will be posted shortly on our website. Attendee registration will start on March 1st and there will be no Early-Bird pricing. We will be making the registration pricing more affordable. There will be a Keynote Session, Children’s Program, (morning and afternoon sessions), but there will be no Used Curriculum at the conference. Even though this will be a smaller conference, we feel that this will be a great opportunity for the parents of homeschoolers of New Jersey.

Please keep check our website over the next few weeks for more details!

President

ENCOURAGING WORDS

Breathing L.I.F.E. into your Homeschool!

fam
By Jennifer Chase, MSW

Have you ever wondered why you started home schooling in the first place? Are you weary? Do your children seem more like a “burden” than a “blessing” today? Well, you are not alone...not even maybe, or a little bit. You are among some of the greatest women and men who have chosen to spend the best hours of their kids’ days together… learning those times tables and science equations. Sometimes I feel crazy…..and then I remember - “Oh yeah, that is why we started.” I say it quietly, remembering that “long ago” calling to have my blessings home all day – with ME!

May I encourage you and speak a little bit into your heart? I am there with you…right in the middle of that pre-teen emotion, adolescent attitude, toddler tantrum, newborn night-time feeding while writing that quarterly report! YOU CAN DO THIS! BUT…and let me say this boldly: YOU CANNOT DO THIS ALONE! We need a Savior to equip us to see our children through His eyes and heart. We need the Holy Spirit to guard our tongues. We need Abba Father to love our kids beyond anything we can fathom - through us.

We are called by God to breathe LIFE…..words, actions, facial expressions, affirmation, and touch – into our homes and children. Every word you say will speak LIFE or death over your child. Jesus came to give us LIFE abundantly – He came to save the lost and heal our broken hearts! WOW – Will you please read that again? Sometimes we breeze over that latter part – go ahead and re-read the sentence – He came to heal our broken hearts…..yours, mine, and our kids’. Deep sigh. That is a safe place – a sanctuary where we should long for our children to find rest for their hearts.

I like to remember it as a simple word: LIFE – Love, Investment, Fun, and Eternity.

LOVE: If you love Jesus, and you have a personal relationship with him, you are in debt to him - to love and to teach as He loved and taught. His love is BOLD and has no end…If we want our kids to know and love God, then we must LOVE them as Christ loves us…always, forever, and with forgiving hearts! Home schooling is a journey – Love your kids well…Love them to the Savior…. Hug them when they are unhuggable… If your children were gone from you all day (private or public school), you could not LOVE on them all day. You are HOME with them…Love on them – ALL DAY!!!

INVESTMENT: What if we see our children as investments? Children are a blessing from the Lord! We are called by God to invest in the lives of our children: Pray with them, read the Bible to them…share your heart with them….teach lessons about God to them…forgive them….You can forever change the life of your child by having an attitude of investing in their lives. They are “disciples” and they need a teacher – a model to follow. God has entrusted your kids to you - to invest your time, energy, love and prayers. What do you want your relationship to look like with your adult children? Invest in them NOW! Remember the Proverbs 31 woman? Her children rise up and call her blessed - I WANT THAT TOO! She invested in their hearts, education, souls, lives, physical needs, self-esteem, body image, and spiritual needs…That is sweetness – to be blessed after blessing another.

FUN: When was the last time you laughed? I mean really gut laughed so hard that it made your stomach hurt? (a great workout instead of sit ups..hmmmm). Children laugh WAY more than adults. Have you looked in the mirror recently? Are you smiling? Are you sober, frowning and downcast in your appearance? Kids love to laugh – they do it at odd times, all day and would love to keep it going - if we joined them. Small children can bring disorder (especially toddlers), but they are not min-adults trapped inside small bodies. They are persons learning, listening, watching, growing, and discovering emotions and gravity. What would happen if we laughed just a little bit more each day? What if we chose laughter instead of raising our voices in anger? What if we turned up the FUN music, grabbed a spoon (makeshift microphone) and began singing some crazy songs in the middle of the day? What if YOU jumped into the swimming pool and did a cannonball? Watch your kids’ faces….observe their hearts spring with glee and their giggles wrapped in laughter….because mom and dad chose to be FUN.

We hung up a zip line in our backyard just to have some FUN….. Last year, I asked for a Karaoke machine for my birthday – so our family could break out into song when the day is absolutely headed down the path of no-return destruction….and it brings us LIFE…something my kids remember when times are tough and the world hurts. Family should be a safe place where we can giggle, laugh, sing and do a dance in the kitchen – to make it for another hour inside together. When math is done, paint some fingernails, build a LEGO® bridge or jump on the trampoline…try laughing a little more – watch your kids’ breathing LIFE when you choose FUN instead of tears and raised voices.

ETERNITY: May I encourage you to think in terms of eternity? If you can, read God’s Word each day to your kids (even those teenagers). It will NOT return void. Pray for your kids’ hearts OUT LOUD with them every day. Demonstrate God’s heart for them. Is God awesome to you? Make sure your kids see how awesome God is….SHOW THEM! Let them taste eternity by loving God in front of them. When our family has faced some really hard times, we have tried to display God’s goodness to our children – showing them that God is good; He is safe; He can be trusted; He will provide; He will heal; He is faithful. Think every day in terms of eternity for your kids’ hearts….it changes everything.

Finally, home school friend, remember that you are not alone on this journey! There are other home school families who can help you along this road. Don’t be afraid to ask a “veteran” home school family for encouragement, accountability and prayers. Moses had helpers hold up his arms. We have a LEAH community to support us, too. We cannot do this alone. We all have situations in our lives and family that seem overwhelming, but we serve a HUGE God who can do anything. “You can do it! It is not always easy, but remember, you are not alone! You have an unlimited power source supporting you. You can do all things because I strengthen you!” Love - The Lord your Helper (Phil 4:13)

My parenting becomes full of LIFE when I rely on God for strength, wisdom, a cooled temper, peace, laughter, and perspective. I simply cannot do this home school stuff well without Jesus…He is the true giver of LIFE!

Teaching Your Homeschooler about the Real Meaning of Christmas

By Kimberly Kulp

This time of year can be magical, when celebrating Christ’s birth, enjoying family time, and nurturing family traditions elevates our hearts and experiences, and when love and giving out of a grateful heart for the greatest gift that was given, become the focus of our thoughts and activities. But, for all too many of us, this season of love and fellowship quickly becomes the busiest, most stressful, and expensive time of the year. And the most important to-do we can accomplish — passing on a legacy of making Christ the reason for Christmas — is pushed aside by too-full schedules and busy mall parking lots.

While the nativity should be at the heart of the season, so often Christ’s birth is overshadowed and the result is a generation of children who think more of Santa than they do of the baby in the manger, more of gifts than giving, and more of spending than of the light that shone on a people walking in darkness. The good news is, all is not lost. There’s still time, even in mid-December and no matter how old your children are, to reshape how your family celebrates Christmas.

4 Ways to Keep Christ in Christmas

1. Celebrate Advent.Advent means “the arrival” and we celebrate advent leading up to Christmas Day because Jesus, the promised Messiah, finally arrived! Tracing the ways that God’s people longed for the Messiah through the Old and New Testament is a perfect way to make the season about Christ. There are many ways to include the Bible in your Christmas celebrating, from setting aside a specific time daily to read the Christmas story, to simply reading about Christ’s birth on Christmas Eve. Creating a family advent wreath and reading the promises of God that point to Jesus within the Old Testament, finishing with his birth, provides a wonderful foundation for the season. Whether you choose to read verses daily or just on Christmas Eve, the key is to tell the story of Jesus’ birth in a way that shines light on the purpose of the season.

2. Set the Scene. When we hold something in our hands it becomes instantly more real. And that’s why nativity scenes are so wonderful, they are a visual and tactile reminder of the true reason for Christmas. Giving the nativity scene a physical space in your home makes the story more concrete and raises the level of importance. If you don’t have a nativity scene, make one! A simple Google search turns up hundreds of fun, easy-to-make nativity scenes that you can make together. Take this one that uses cardboard tubes with cute and colorful faces, or another done entirely in felt! Set up nativity scenes in your home and allow your children to play with them.

3. Joy to the World!Singing is a wonderful way to communicate the true meaning of the holidays. Set aside time each day to sing a Christ-centered Christmas carol and talk about the lyrics and its meaning. Older children can research that author and share the history behind the song with the family. Then listen to several versions online to bring the hymn to life. Christmas hymns are rich with history and meaning, pointing to Christ’s coming and leading our hearts to celebrate.

4. Give More.Christ is the greatest gift the world has ever known; God become man to save us and bring peace. Share this wonderful gift by giving to others in His name this season. From Christmas cards wishing peace on earth to cookies for neighbors to gifts under the tree Christmas morning, making giving center stage provides many opportunities to talk about the gift of Christ and the legacy of service He left for His people to carry on after Him.

Christ is the light that shines out of the darkness, and it’s important your children understand the real history behind the Christmas celebration so it’s traditions and moral lessons can be woven into your holiday routine. With a few simple ideas, and with a heart full of love and fellowship, any parent can take their child’s attention off presents, candy, and flashing lights to focus on the birth of Our Lord and the love that he had for each and every one of us.

November 2015 Newsletter

wpid-screenshot_2014-09-22-23-24-43-1.png
Dear Friends,

November is a time of remembrance to be thankful for what God has done for us over the past year, especially with Thanksgiving around the corner. "It is a good thing to give thanks to the Lord."

I am so thankful for all the lives that the Lord has touch through the many homeschool conventions that ENOCH has held. My wife and I have made many friends throughout the years while either attending or working at those conventions and I know that many of you have also.

I am sure many of you have been wondering when ENOCH's 2016 Convention will be held. Unfortunately, because of decreasing attendance over the last few years, many exhibitors have been by-passing our convention and the less exhibitors, the smaller attendance. With rising costs, ENOCH can no longer afford to hold a two day convention. Even with the cost cutting measures that we have taking over the last few years, it still costs about $65,000 to put on a convention. While this was a hard decision for the Board to make, we did not have much of a choice. We are working on a smaller one day conference to be held sometime in the spring, so keep a lookout for details in our upcoming newsletters.

This organization cannot exist without volunteers. For over a year we have been seeking volunteers to serve on ENOCH, at the convention, and for ENOCH (that is not Board positions). Because we have not received any help in these areas as well, ENOCH must make choices as to what we can and cannot do. It is not always the finances but the bodies that can help. If you feel a desire to serve the homeschoolers of NJ, please contact David West, our Vice President, at (JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address).

On behalf of the Board of ENOCH, I would like to thank all of you who have supported us throughout the years by attending our annual conventions. Please keep the Board in prayer as we work through all the details for this one day conference.

Have a Blessed Thanksgiving!

In His Service,
Rich Millward

ENCOURAGING WORDS

Some encouraging words from HSLDA's website we want to share with you. Do you ever have those days of feeling inadequate or lacking courage. This is for you!

Feeling Inadequate or Lacking Courage

First: He brought me here, it is by His will I am in this strait place; in that I will rest. Next: He will keep me here in His love, and give me grace in this trial to behave as His child. Then: He will make the trial a blessing, teaching me the lessons He intends me to learn, and working in me the grace He means to bestow. Last: In His good time, He can bring me out again--how and when, He knows. Say: I am HERE--By God's appointment, in His keeping, under His training, for His time.

Andrew Murray

"We also, before the temptation comes, think we can walk upon the sea, but when the winds blow, we feel ourselves begin to sink . . . and yet doth it yield no good unto us? We could not live without such turnings of the hand of God upon us. We should be overgrown with flesh, if we had not our seasonable winters. It is said that in some countries trees will grow, but will bear no fruit, because there is no winter there."

John Bunyan

The job has been given to me to do. Therefore, it is a gift. Therefore, it is a privilege. Therefore, it is an offering I may make to God. Therefore, it is to be done gladly, if it is done for Him. Therefore, it is the route to sanctity. Here, not somewhere else, I may learn God's way. In this job, not in some other, God looks for faithfulness. The discipline of this job is, in fact the chisel God has chosen to shape me with--into the image of Christ. Thank you, Lord, for the work You have assigned me. I take it as your gift; I offer it back to you. With your help I will do it gladly, faithfully. I will trust you to make me holy.

A Lamp unto My Feet: The Bible's Light for Your Daily Walk by Elisabeth Elliot

"Restless and doubtful we wonder why we have nothing to show for our efforts, no visible sign of progress. Let us remember the perfect egg--it is unchanged in its appearance from the day it is laid. But while the bird waits faithfully, doing the only thing she is required to do throughout those silent weeks--important things are taking place. Psalm 130:5, 6 'I wait for the Lord. My soul waits, and in His Word I hope; my soul waits for the Lord more than watchmen for the morning.'"

This month I would like to share an article with you that was, and still is of great encouragement to me in my walk of faith. May it be an encouragement to you, and a reminder of Gods faithfulness.

How to Respond When God Says “No”

No2

We have a good Father in God, who, just like a good earthly father, desires to give His children what’s best for them, even if He has to say no to something they want right now. The question is: Do we really believe that He’s good? If we did, wouldn’t that be cause to celebrate, whether He says no or yes?

But what if we really believed God was good? What if we believed that He was always saying yes — maybe not to what we are asking Him for right at that moment — but saying yes to His best. What if we trusted His heart, even when His hand seemingly withholds the very thing we so desire? What if we choose to celebrate all of the previous yes answers He’s given us despite His current no? I think it would change how we respond. I think we would find joy, keep hoping and smile despite what we see. I know how badly you want your yes but hang in there. Keep hoping. Keep praying. Keep believing, and if God says no, choose to give thanks.

I have been walking with God long enough to know that many times God has said no because He had a greater yes in store for me. I have been walking with God long enough to know that even if I don’t like His answer, I can respond to Him with expectation, hope and joy. I have been walking with God long enough to know He’s good and although He doesn’t always give me what I want, He always gives me what He knows I need. In some way, shape or form, He’s always saying yes.

Father God, today I choose joy because I believe You are always saying yes. Sure, there are places of disappointment in my life and there are things I would like to be different, but I choose to give thanks. Starting today, I choose to respond with thankfulness, to You, because You are always good — a Father who has my best in mind. . In Jesus’ Name, Amen.

Psalm 100:5, “For the LORD is good and his love endures forever; his faithfulness continues through all generations.” (NIV)

Matthew 7:9-11, “Or what man is there among you who, when his son asks for a loaf, will give him a stone? Or if he asks for a fish, he will not give him a snake, will he? If you then, being evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father who is in heaven give what is good to those who ask Him!” (NASB)

1 Corinthians 13 for Homeschool Moms

Author: Misty Krasawski
Published in: Arizona Home Education Journal

If I speak with the tongues of men and of angels, and teach my children Latin conjugations, Chinese, and Portuguese, but do not have love, I have become a noisy gong or a clanging cymbal, and no matter what I say, they will not hear me.

If I have the gift of prophecy, and know my children’s bents and God’s plan for their lives, and know all mysteries and all knowledge, and am the keeper of the teacher’s editions and solutions manuals, and if I have all faith, so as to move mountains, and even keep up with my giant piles of laundry and dishes, but do not have love, I am nothing, even if all the people at church think I’m Supermom.

And if I give all my possessions to feed the poor, and my formal dining room gets turned into a schoolroom, and our family vacations look more like educational fieldtrips, and if I surrender my body to be burned, never having time to get my nails done, put makeup on, or even take a bath, but do not have love, it profits me nothing because all my family cares about is the expression on my face, anyway.

Love is patient with the child who still can’t get double-digit subtraction with borrowing, and kind to the one who hasn’t turned in his research paper. It is not jealous of moms with more, fewer, neater, more self-directed, better-behaved, or smarter children.

Love does not brag about homemade bread, book lists, or scholarships, and is not arrogant about her lifestyle or curriculum choices. It does not act unbecomingly or correct the children in front of their friends. It does not seek its own, trying to squeeze in alone time when someone still needs help; it is not provoked when interrupted for the nineteenth time by a child, the phone, the doorbell, or the dog; does not take into account a wrong suffered, even when no one compliments the dinner that took hours to make or the house that took so long to clean.

Love does not rejoice in unrighteousness or pointing out everyone else’s flaws, but rejoices with the truth and with every small step her children take in becoming more like Jesus, knowing it’s only by the grace of God when that occurs.

Love bears all things even while running on no sleep; believes all things, especially God’s promise to indwell and empower her; hopes all things, such as that she’ll actually complete the English curriculum this year and the kids will eventually graduate; endures all things, even questioning from strangers, worried relatives, and most of all, herself.

Love never fails. And neither will she. As long as she never, never, never gives up.

Misty Krasawski is the overly-blessed mom of eight children whom she homeschools in sunshine-y Florida. She has been clinging to Jesus since 1975, homeschooling since 1997, and if the Lord tarries, will apparently continue doing so until 2026. Her wonderful husband Rob has much treasure laid up for him in heaven. She can sometimes be found gathering her thoughts at www.homeschoolblogger.com/MistyKrasawski Contact author when reprinting this article. August 2015 Newsletter

wpid-screenshot_2014-09-22-23-24-43-1.png

Dear Friends,

In 1967, a court case would mark the beginning of homeschool rights in New Jersey. That case was State v. Massa. This year marks 48 years since the ruling was given and with it the doors were opened for families to freely home educate their children. I know some pioneer families who went through the difficulties of staying true to homeschooling in the early years when Boards of Education and Welfare were trying to bully their way into their lives. HSLDA has been there to help these families and continue to do so.

Now, you're asking, "Where are you going with this? We know this." Here is why. Recently, I was thinking of how the face of homeschooling has changed, not only in New Jersey but all over. In the early years, it was for religious freedom but today, families homeschool because they fear the school system, bullying, drugs, government oversight, shootings, gangs, etc. The list can go on and on. I don't know all of you who read this newsletter and over the years, I have gotten to know some of you at the annual homeschool convention or other gatherings. Everyone has their reasons.

Within the homeschool community, things have changed as well. When our family began the journey, there were lots of support groups for the parents. I was saddened when our local one closed after being together for many years. We had wonderful times together. Many of the friends I have today were born from those times. While time has gone on, we have morphed into coops, internet group chats, Facebook groups, park get-together, activities for the kids, and so on. In New Jersey, homeschoolers have become more independent. They don't need the fellowship time with other homeschoolers. "I can handle this on my own." May I remind us all that we are not an island? Even the Bible says, "Do not forsake the assembling of one another."

I want to call you to rethink your school year's plans that lay ahead in less than a month. Educate your children, by all means. Let them have the activities they want to enjoy with their friends. But for the sake of your own spiritual and mental state, find some homeschool friends, of like mind, that you can spend quality time with. Take time for yourself once a month, like we did all those years ago. Get refreshed. I cannot tell you what those monthly meetings did for my wife. She loved bouncing ideas, laughing with friends, discussing her homeschool day with other moms who were going through the same thing. You are not alone! Get connected! I pray this year will be full of times for you as well as for your children.

Enjoy your homeschool year from all of us at ENOCH!

URGENT NEEDS! ENOCH EVENTS AND NEWS!

wpid-screenshot_2014-09-22-23-38-34-1.png

We have inquired for the needs of ENOCH over the last few months and no one has been able to step up to the plate. Our family cannot endure the work that ENOCH requires when it consumes so much of our time because there are not enough people to serve. (Rich Millward) We need your help! If you have a heart to serve and can help us, we would love to have you. Here are some areas we have open.

Newsletter person- computer experience especially with HTML programming. We are in need a newsletter person ASAP. Please, if you have the experience and can volunteer your time, we would greatly appreciate it.

Silent Auction Coordinator - this job runs from December through the convention. You must be able to contact perspective donors during business hours. Some computer knowledge a plus. Computer experience, time, and a desire to serve homeschoolers of New Jersey would aid us tremendously. We are calling on this younger generation to come up and stand with us. Please contact our Office with your contact information and we will get back to you. Email: (JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address) .

Convention Needs - again there are vacancies - too many to number - to help on the convention. If you are interested or would like more information, please contact David West about where you can serve at (JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address).

Our President is taking time off before the convention so we thought we would let our Keynote Speaker, Vicki Bentley speak to us! Enjoy!

Stir Up a Little Homeschool Enthusiasm
By Vicki Bentley, HSLDA
Our Keynote Speaker at the 2015 Convention

Knowing your child’s interests can help you to stir up some enthusiasm. Learning is more interesting when it becomes relevant to real life or is tied to something about which he is passionate (even if it’s just the “fascination of the week”). In The Christian Home School, Gregg Harris refers to this as “delight-directed” learning; Marilyn Howshall expands the definition in Wisdom’s Way of Learning and Robin Sampson explains more in The Heart of Wisdom Teaching Approach.

Focus on His Fascination
What does your child do when he’s not doing schoolwork? Consider his interests and find ways to capitalize on those. For example, a friend taught her son to alphabetize in an afternoon by teaching him how to organize his favorite baseball cards alphabetically—it would have taken her weeks using her standard language arts lessons, after he had slithered to the floor from his chair in frustration.

Your roller-coaster enthusiast might become more interested in physics introduced in the context of amusement park rides and the science behind them. The budding storyteller or novelist can be inspired to learn editing and revision, literary style, vocabulary—not to mention word processing and keyboarding—as he develops his own composition. In a room makeover, let the child pick his own paint and then calculate his room’s square footage, and the amount of paint needed, then the total cost of the project!

For an older child, consider including him in some of the decisions—what science or history topics does he want to know more about? Would he prefer to write a report or do an end-of-section project? What foreign language sounds interesting or useful to him? Even a younger child can tell you what he knows and what he wonders about a topic.

One parent built a themed study around a student’s interest in visiting Scotland. The high school student researched flight information, currency types and exchange rates, places to visit, the history and government of Scotland, customs and dress, literature and culture, and more.

Food for Thought
Another creative homeschooler spent several years in various studies arising from baking a red velvet cake! The ingredients list—flour, eggs, cocoa, salt, etc.—became the study topics. Where does flour come from? How is it milled? What are various types and how do they differ? What are the health and finance ramifications of industrialized milling? Where do we get red food coloring? (Can you say, “beetle juice”?) Egg research evolved into a small business selling eggs and raising chicks, and chocolate became “food” for research as this homeschool family investigated the history and processing of several varieties of chocolate. A year or two later, they ate cake.

Think Outside the (Curriculum) Box
Lighten things up a bit with fun and games in your homeschool. Read up a bit on learning styles and try to include some work that is “up his alley,” so to speak. It helps to dangle the occasional “carrot” of a fun family project for closure—such as a medieval feast to finish a Middle Ages unit—or a few off-the-wall holiday celebrations, such as Dr. Seuss’s birthday.

Be Contagious!
Most importantly, be excited about being with your children as they learn—your enthusiasm can rub off on them.

May 2015 Newsletter

April 2015 Newsletter

wpid-screenshot_2014-09-22-23-24-43-1.png

Dear Friends

ENOCH is in full swing and final preparations for the convention. This is a special anniversary for us - 25 YEARS! I cannot believe it! ENOCH has been helping homeschoolers for over 25 years but our conventions began later. I have only been a part of them for about 15 years. That seems like a long time!

My first convention I ever attended was in Burlington, NJ when it was held at a church. It was there I heard Ken Ham for the very first time. After his first session, my wife and I went back to our hotel and decided then and there that homeschooling was the way to go. Now my oldest is in college and the youngest is finishing 8th grade. One speaker made the difference to us!

That is why I, along with the Board of ENOCH, endeavor to have speakers that will encourage you, bless you, help you, lead you, etc. It is always our desire that God uses the speakers whether they are keynotes, featured or workshop. Our Speaker Coordinator, reads through all the surveys our attendees fill out at during the convention, and sets out to make things better. She is always encouraged when she receives a note of how a speaker changed someone's life. There have been emails I received after the convention conveying the same thought.

Join us this year as we celebrate 25 years of ministry to the homeschoolers of NJ and the surrounding area. In our program this year, we plan on taking a walk down Memory Lane, looking back at past conventions. A special drawing will be held at the convention to commemorate this anniversary so don't miss out! We look forward to seeing you!

Thank you!

Rich Millward President

Convention News

Get ready for ENOCH's 25th Annual Homeschool Convention is only one and half months away!

Our theme is "Standing Firm in Your Homeschool".

Speakers:

Outside of our keynotes and featured speakers, we have some outstanding workshop speakers we hope you will enjoy as well. Kristen Eckenwiler will be speaking on learning disabilities; Susan Kemmerer, who is always a favorite, will be speaking to us about being an encourager even when you are discouraged!; we have a couple of workshops on beginning homeschooling. This always carries a wealth of information and the list goes on! Check out the workshop schedule here!

Now Vicki Bentley from HSLDA, Scott Turansky and Joanne Miller from National Center of Biblical Parenting and Jonathan Brush from College Plus have a multitude of ideas and information they will be sharing with us this year. You don't want to miss it. Scott Turansky and Joanne Miller have renewed the call to parents to connect to the heart of their children! You won't want to miss what they have to say! Parents WE ALL NEED THIS!

Registration: Even though you missed Early Bird, you can still register online so you don't have to stand on line to register when you walk in. Remember, Parents of Preschoolers and parents new to homeschooling (Newbies) have special pricing. Click here to register. We look forward to seeing you there!

Children’s Program: We cannot wait for your children to join us in our Children's Program this year! JandY Ministry has been a great resource of fun for your children. Their mission in life is to glorify God, to teach God's truths and to equip others to do the same! They have so much to offer your children with balloons, games, video, experiments, dinosaurs, face painting, etc. You can learn all about them at www.jandyministry.com. Pricing is the same as last year! There will be two sessions on Friday and four sessions on Saturday. Sign-up your children when you register, either for the Friday sessions, Saturday sessions or both days. Be sure to sign-up early. Last year Saturday's sessions sold out! We are already seeing both days begin to fill. Get your children registered! **At this point of publishing the newsletter, there is still room for your child to attend! Make sure to register them! **

Silent Auction: Our Silent Auction is shaping up. Some vendors have donated items for our Silent Auction, We have a pocket Bible, tickets to Trenton Thunder, a gift certificate for IEW, a sample pack from Virginia Soap and Scents, just to name a few. The Silent Auction will be held during the convention. If you know a business or you own a business yourself and would like to get your name out to the homeschool community, consider donating an item to be bid on during the convention. You can e-mail the Silent Auction Coordinator at (JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address).

iPad Mini Giveaway: When you pick up your wrist bands in registration, you will receive a card of vendors who signed up to participate in our iPad Mini Giveaway. We had a large contingency of attendees who stopped at the vendors listed. And the vendors love it too! Last year, everyone gathered to hear the announcement for the winner! We are thrilled to offer this again to our attendees!

Advertising: Attention all businesses! The best way to get your name out to our attendees is place an ad in the Convention Program or sponsor a portion of the convention. You can contact the Convention Coordinator at (JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address).

Exhibitors: Since last month, there have been more registrations of exhibitors. Check our website for the latest exhibitor list. We constantly hear from our attendees in reference to exhibitors not listed, we send everyone an invitation to participate in our convention. If you don't see, your favorite vendors contact them and ask them to register for the convention. Sometimes they need a push from their customers directly. So, call them or email them and invite them.

Needed Prayer: Please continue to pray for ENOCH and planning of the convention. Also, pray for our vendors attending the convention. It is our desire that every attendee is blessed and encouraged and every vendor will proper while at our convention.

Volunteers: If you have registered for the convention, in your confirmation email you should have received a link to volunteer. We need your help! Dear Friends,

The Prodigals Brother, the Story Less Told...

The story of the Prodigal Son is well known to Christians and non-Christians alike. This story parallels the undying love of God the Father towards wayward, self-willed, self-indulgent mankind.

Based on how many Christians live, shows the lack of understanding of the great love the Father has for us. Many like the prodigal’s brother, are caught in the bondage of thinking that Gods love for them revolves solely around there duties and performance. The point the prodigals brother missed is the understanding that there is nothing that he could do to earn his father’s love. Nothing! Nada! Zip! The true revelation of God’s love for us comes when we understand that God loves us despite who we are, and what we have done.

When the Prodigal Son made his humble trip home to his Father’s house, and was met with the forgiveness and open arms of his father, his heart was filled with gratitude, something that the prodigal’s brother knew nothing about. As we truly understand the love of our Father God, our hearts are also filled with gratitude, which compels us to live in such a way, to please the one that loves us unconditionally.

As I share these thoughts with you, I am reminded that none of us is exempt from the disease of ungratefulness, myself included. We are forgetful people. May we continue to be reminded of the gratefulness we need to have for this very costly love God the Father has for us all, in Christ Jesus. May we all continue to be fueled by this awesome love, that we may truly be salt and light in our world.

May God truly bless you and keep you in His Love.

Convention News

Get ready for ENOCH's 25th Annual Homeschool Convention is only two and half months away!

Our theme is "Standing Firm in Your Homeschool".

Speakers:

Check out the workshop schedule here. We have some great speakers: Vicki Bentley from HSLDA, Scott Turansky and Joanne Miller from National Center of Biblical Parenting and Jonathan Brush from College Plus. Scott Turansky and Joanne Miller have been one of the convention's favorite speakers and they are locals from New Jersey.

Early-Bird Registration:

Early-Bird Pre-Registration closes March 31st and prices go up after that date! Make sure you register before the time passes you by. Parents of Preschoolers and parents new to homeschooling (Newbies) have special pricing. Click here to register.

Children’s Program:

Again, we have JandY Ministry for our Children's Program. Their mission in life is to glorify God, to teach God's truths and to equip others to do the same! They have so much to offer your children with balloons, games, video, experiments, dinosaurs, face painting, etc. You can learn all about them at www.jandyministry.com. The pricing is the same as last year, as well.

Silent Auction:

We are excited to be holding a Silent Auction again during the convention. If you know a business or you own a business yourself and would like to get your name out to the homeschool community, consider donating an item to be bid on during the convention. You can e-mail the Silent Auction Coordinator at (JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address).

iPad Mini Giveaway

Some of our vendors will be participating in the iPad Mini giveaway again this year. Last year, everyone gathered to hear the announcement for the winner! We are thrilled to offer this again to our attendees.

Advertising:

Here is another way of getting your business out to our attendees: place an ad in the Convention Program or sponsor a portion of the convention. You can contact the Convention Coordinator at (JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address).

Exhibitors:

Check our website for exhibitors who have registered. If you don't see, your favorite vendors contact them and ask them to register for the convention. We endeavor to reach out and invite every vendor we know of. But sometimes they need a push from their customers directly. So, call them or email them and invite them.

Needed Prayer:

Please continue to pray for ENOCH and planning of the convention. Also, pray for our vendors attending the convention. We ask the Lord to make their time prosperous at our convention. Be sure to register for the convention. Early Bird pricing ends March 31, 2015!

Volunteers:

We still have open vacancies related to the convention and need any help you can give. If you can work before, during or after the convention, contact Rich Millward, President of ENOCH at (JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address). Every little bit helps!

Dear Friends,

The rush of the holiday season is over, and for me, this year went extremely fast. As I write this, the day after Christmas, it is hard to believe that 2015 is just around the corner!

For some, 2014 was not what you expected. Maybe homeschooling did not go according to plan, or there was a financial struggle. How about health issues, those are always unexpected? How did we handle it? We have friends of ours who's son is a missionary in Papua, New Guinea. He was in a motorcycle accident in October and is still in rehabilitation in Australia. For his family, he has a wife and three sons, that was not something that they expected in 2014. The Lord is helping them in a mighty way, but continue to pray for them. Their names are Jon and Adie Leedhal and their three sons.

What are you expecting from 2015? Recently in church our minister was preaching about Jesus, the Alpha and the Omega. In Revelation 21:5, just before one of the passages where that name of Jesus is mentioned, it says, "Behold, I will make all things new." I know it is talking about the Lord making all things new, but why can't we, with the Lord's wisdom and help, make a new beginning in 2015 where we have failed? It could be that homeschooling is going great this school year, and that is wonderful! But what about other areas of your life and your family's life? Is there something that you have failed at over and over again last year? Maybe you just gave up. As this new year begins, looking into the face of the One who truly loves you, ask His forgiveness and His help to start NEW! We make promises and New Year's Resolutions, but make it different this year. Search the Scriptures, spend some more time in prayer, talk to a friend you can trust.

I want to ask you to pray for ENOCH this coming year! Specifically that you pray for the needs of our organization. You can see below what some of those needs are. Personally, I would ask for prayer for my wife. During Halloween, she was admitted to the hospital for chest pains. It was not was not a heart attack, praise God, but a great amount of stress. Not many people how much she does behind the scenes for ENOCH. Many consider her the "go-to" person when questions arise though we have relieved her of many things, she does have some after effects with her nerves. I would be very appreciative!

The entire Board joins me in wishing you a happy and healthy New Year!

In His Service,

Rich Millward
President

SPECIAL ANNOUNCEMENT!!!

BEYOND THE MASK MOVIE

Dear New Jersey Homeschoolers:

Last month I wrote to you telling you about an upcoming movie called Beyond the Mask. My family and I were able to see the movie during a special screening last September and my wife and I had lunch with the producer and homeschool graduate Aaron Burns. It was fascinating talking with him about the film, which has many homeschool graduates working behind the sceens.

This movie brings history to life in a faith-filled adventure celebrating grace, liberty, and the true freedom that can only be found in Christ. Beyond the Mask is written by Focus on the Family’s own Paul McCusker and produced by Burns Family Productions. Beyond the Mask has been endorsed by Christian leaders around the country, including: Stephen Kendrick, producer of Courageous and Fireproof, Michael Farris of HSLDA, and many more.

Right now there are three theaters in New Jersey that are committed to showing the film on April 6th, but we need you as homeschoolers of New Jersey to buy tickets. A certain number of tickets need to be sold in each theater or the showing will be cancelled. Click on the link and it will take you to the website to find where the movie is going to be shown in your area. The theater that I have booked is the Strathmore Cinema 4 in Matawan. If you do not live in the northern Monmouth/southern Middlesex County area you can also find the other two theater from that website. You can also see the new trailer for the movie. If you would like to join me and become a Theater Captain and setup a showing in your area click on the link: -http://www.beyondthemaskmovie.com

Don't just talk to your homeschool friends to go see the movie, why not your church or have you children invite their friends. Beyond the Mask is a family friendly movie.

Don’t Let Christmas Distract You from Christ

May your Christmas vision be clear this season as you allow me to share the thoughts below with you. Christmas is a busy season. Streets and stores are filled with people making last-minute preparations. Travelers on the highways increase, airports are crowded— everywhere seems to come to life with music, lights, and festive decorations.

A writer has said: “Of all holidays there is none that enters so fully into the human heart, and stirs so many of the higher sentiments. The thoughts, memories, hopes, and customs linked with it are bound by antiquity and nationality collectively; and by childhood and old age individually. They embrace the religious, social, and patriotic sides of our nature. The holly and mistletoe entwined among the evergreens, the habit of giving gifts to those we love, the presence of the Christmas tree, the superstition of Santa Claus, all combining to make Christmas the most longed-for, the most universal, and from every standpoint, the most important holiday known to man” [Clarence Baird, “The Spirit of Christmas,” ].

The season is steeped in tradition, and its roots stem back in history. The commencement of the holiday lies in pagan worship long before the introduction of Christianity. The pagan worship of the sun, deeply rooted in Roman culture, was replaced by one of the greatest festivals among Christians. Christmas has come down to us as a day of thanksgiving and rejoicing—a day of good cheer and goodwill to men. Although it has an earthly relation and significance, it is divine in content. The ancient Christian celebration has lived continuously through the centuries.

How is Christmas regarded today? The legend of Santa Claus, the Christmas tree, the decorations of tinsel and mistletoe, and the giving of gifts all express to us the spirit of the day we celebrate; but the true spirit of Christmas lies much deeper than these. It is found in the life of the Savior, in the principles He taught, in His atoning sacrifice—which become our great heritage.

It is possible for Christ to be born in men’s lives. He is not just a general truth or a fact in history, but the Savior of men everywhere and at all times. When we strive to be Christlike, He is “formed” in us; if we open the door, He will enter; if we seek His counsel, He will counsel us. Such a belief in Christ and the keeping of His commandments are not restraints upon us. By these, men are set free. This Prince of Peace waits to give peace of mind, which may make each of us an instrument of that peace.

Christmas is not a day or a season, but a condition of heart and mind.
If we love our neighbors as ourselves;
if in our riches we are poor in spirit and in our poverty we are rich in grace;
if our charity vaunteth not itself, but suffereth long and is kind;
if when our brother asks for a loaf, we give ourselves instead, if each day dawns in opportunity and sets in achievement, however small—then every day is Christ’s day and Christmas is always near.
-- James Wallingford

“If you desire to find the true spirit of Christmas and partake of the sweetness of it, let me make this suggestion to you. During the hurry of the festive occasion of this Christmas season, find time to turn your heart to God. Perhaps in the quiet hours, and in a quiet place, and on your knees—alone or with loved ones—give thanks for the good things that have come to you, and ask that His Spirit might dwell in you as you earnestly strive to serve Him and keep His commandments. He will take you by the hand and His promises will be kept.” --Howard W. Hunter

“And in despair I bowed my head; "There is no peace on earth," I said; "For hate is strong, And mocks the song Of peace on earth, good-will to men!" Then pealed the bells more loud and deep: "God is not dead, nor doth he sleep! The Wrong shall fail, the Right prevail, With peace on earth, good-will to men!” ― Henry Wadsworth Longfellow

“I will honor Christmas in my heart, and try to keep it all the year.” ― Charles Dickens

It has been said that Christmas is for children; but as the years of childhood pass away and maturity takes their place, the simple teaching of the Savior that “it is more blessed to give than to receive” (Acts 20:35) becomes a reality. The transition from a pagan holiday transformed into a Christian festival to the birth of Christ in men’s lives is another form of maturity that comes to one who has been touched by the gospel of Jesus Christ.

May God bless you and your family this Christmas season, Emmanuel, God with Us.

Serving Him,
David West

FROM THE PRESIDENT'S DESK

Bless the Lord, O my soul; And all that is within me, bless His holy name! Praise the LORD, O my soul; all my inmost being, praise his holy name. Bless the Lord, O my soul, And forget not all His benefits: Praise the LORD, O my soul, and forget not all his benefits-- Who forgives all your iniquities, Who heals all your diseases, who forgives all your sins and heals all your diseases, Who redeems your life from destruction, Who crowns you with lovingkindness and tender mercies, who redeems your life from the pit and crowns you with love and compassion, Who satisfies your mouth with good things, So that your youth is renewed like the eagle's. - Psalm 103: 1-5

A Time of Praise and Thanksgiving

As we head into the month of Thanksgiving, we all have so much to be thankful for. This year my family is very thankful as my mother-in-law will be cooking Thanksgiving dinner for the first time in two years. She had some health issues that kept her from having the family gathering. But God intervened and she is feeling so much better.

I am sure we all know those who are less fortunate than us. I see it around me every day. The Bayshore area of New Jersey, were I live and work, is still suffering from the effects of Superstorm Sandy. A family in our own church finally moved into their new home after almost 2 years because of Sandy. We are rejoicing over God's faithfulness!

Though the fig tree may not blossom, Nor fruit be on the vines; Though the labor of the olive may fail, And the fields yield no food; Though the flock may be cut off from the fold, And there be no herd in the stalls-- Yet I will rejoice in the Lord, I will joy in the God of my salvation. The Lord God is my strength; He will make my feet like deer's feet, And He will make me walk on my high hills. - Habakkuk 3:17-19

2014 has had its ups and downs. Even as I write this, my wife is in the hospital waiting to be released. But as the verse from Habakkuk mentions above, "yet I will rejoice in the Lord." Maybe home educating your children did not go as planned. Maybe, you've had to help with a family member's health. Don't look at what is happening around you. Join me in praise and worship to our faithful God. Remind yourself of His character.

Make this a joyful Thanksgiving!

Rich Millward
President

Where there is no vision the people perish. Proverbs 29:18a

Recently, I attended a national leadership conference. One of the speakers there gave a brief talk about family relations and homeschooling this next generation to have a vision, a solid Biblical worldview, and to raise godly and courageous parents of the generations to follow.

It made me think about this up and coming generation. I, along with my wife, have been homeschooling for over 17 years. I am eternally grateful to see how my daughters have grown up and love God on their own. They are faithful to church. They participate and work at the annual convention. They possess a good Biblical worldview. And I say all this for the glory of God. It is my desire that they in turn will one day raise their families for the kingdom of God and to serve where God calls them.

Now, I want to turn the attention to all of you. How is it going in your home? Do your children love the Lord for themselves? Are you raising a generation of future godly parents? What about their Biblical worldview? This is not a scolding by any means. Maybe a gentle reminder. What is your vision for your family? Are you fostering a spirit into this next generation to take the baton when the time comes? Are you passing along your faith? Or is your homeschooling just accomplishing an education?

In an article from Charles Stanley, he gives six points that I believe can help us. I hope they encourage you.

Godly parenting takes . . .

1) Principle: We must instruct our children in the ways of God. Read Deuteronomy 6:4-7. How often were the people of Israel supposed to talk about their faith?

2) Pattern: Children learn more by watching us than by listening to what we say.

Your example is a key ingredient to passing down your faith. For example, if you pray as a family when life is difficult, children learn they can go to God with their worries.

3) Persistence: We pass on faith by doing the right thing consistently.

No parent is perfect. But those who do the right thing day by day—not just when it is convenient—make a powerful impression on their children. Galatians 6:9 says, “Let us not lose heart in doing good, for in due time we will reap if we do not grow weary.”

4) Participation: When we get involved in the lives of our children, we establish a caring relationship that makes it easier to communicate with them about our faith.

Without taking on their responsibilities, do your best to help your children with their problems. For younger kids, this may mean giving advice outright or helping them find the answer in God’s Word. Older children may prefer to talk through their ideas with you to reach a solution. If they say something with which you strongly disagree, try not to overreact. Instead, ask how they came to that conclusion. Keep the lines of communication open so you can guide them toward a biblical perspective.

5) Praise: The greatest motivation for learning is praise.

As a motivator, encouragement is more effective than constant correction. Spend more time praising your child for what he does right than you do critiquing his mistakes. Offer help if it’s needed, but don’t be overly demanding (Col. 3:21).

6) Prayer: If you consistently pray with and for your children, you will demonstrate the importance of prayer.

Jesus set an example for us by praying in all types of situations. He prayed for the sick, for calm weather, and for miraculous provision. He prayed at the height of His popularity and when He anticipated persecution and suffering.

Parents, this is your opportunity as a family to make this the best time together. Build those family relations. Have fun. Worship together. Pray! Pray! And pray some more! The time quickly passes and they will leave for college, get married, go to work, etc. Make this time count! And make sure that you are passing the baton of faith to this next generation!

Press on!

Desk

Dear Friends,

September is here again! As we begin a new school year, I was thinking what I should write about.  There is always "what happened over the summer" idea, which seemed to go extremely fast this year.  I finally finished Our Mutual Friend, by Charles Dickens, and I started a book that I read in high school. I don't remember that much about it. I do however remember the discussion in class, and it's funny the things you remember from over 35 years ago! I was going to write about the upcoming school year, but then something happened recently at work that had me thinking.
Someone I work with had a very close friend who died from complications from surgery and he left behind a wife and a one year old daughter.  We never know what may be coming our way.  Thinking about this situation I thought of the article David West wrote in last month's newsletter, "Success at What Price". As I reread it, one line stuck out to me - "Was the major focus on pursuing the knowledge of God's world, memorizing scriptures, and building a relationship with the God of this Book…"  I know that David was speaking about home educating our child, but this holds true for life's difficult places, whether it is a sickness, financial difficulties, or even the death of a loved one.  Helping our children build their relationship with God will not only give them a good foundation for education, but also for facing those difficult times in their lives. Right now everyone seems so focused on getting back into the routine of school, but let us not forget to keep God in the center of our home education!
As you wind down your summer and prepare for the school year, remember to place Christ in the center!

Now, for some ENOCH business:
We are looking for a few volunteers to fill some positions in the organization.
1.  A newsletter editor.  Toni DiGiovacchino, who has been our newsletter editor for many years, is stepping down.  Toni is willing to assist the person who will be filling this position.  We would like to thank Toni for all her years of service to ENOCH!
2.  Office Manager - forward emails that come into the office email to the proper board member, respond and forward voice mails and update ENOCH records. This job is year round.  A seasoned homeschooler would fit the bill. You need to be resourceful and informative.
3.  Social Media person - manages ENOCH's Facebook, Twitter, Pintrest and Google+.
4.  Silent Auction Coordinator for the convention.  This position starts in December and runs through the convention.

If you are interested in any of these positions, please contact me a (JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address).

WINNER!
Susan Grabowski is the winner of an MP3 set from our upcoming 2015 Convention.  Her name was drawn from all those who answered the 2014 Convention Survey.  Congratulations Susan!  Thank you to all who took the time to answer the survey.

Success at What Price

Do you ever take the time to re-evaluate why you do what you do?

If you do, do you find that the reasons are not the same as when you first began? This can relate to many long term tasks we may set our hands to do in our busy lives. The task starts out with strong convictions, based on Godly principles, and a need to enact positive change in your own life, lives of others, or the world at large.

Joshua 1:8 states "This book of the Law shall not depart from your mouth, but you shall meditate on it day and night, that you may observe to do according to all that is written in it, for then you will make your way prosperous, and then you will have good success"!

Success? Academic Success? Vocational Success? Financial Success? What is the price one pays to achieve such successes? To keep this article short, I will reflect on decisions and tasks that lead us on a path to academic success. Maybe you have pursued academic success for yourself, or currently for your child/children. You may now reflect back on your first decision to homeschool your children.

Have the goals or methods you are using to help your child achieve this academic success change from when this journey first began? Did you originally pattern their success plan after Joshua 1:8? Was the major focus on pursuing the knowledge of God's world, memorizing scriptures, and building a relationship with the God of this Book which promises us success? As time moves on and your children get older, has the focus on the aforementioned formula for God's success for your children's life changed to just a pursuit of knowledge? Instead of God's Word being the center of your children's academic success, it may have been reduced to just another subject to cover in their education?

I applaud you if you have kept your focus through the years, in keeping God's Word at the center, of not only your life, but the plan for your children's academic success. But, for the rest of us that need help to stay on point, I would encourage you to take frequent evaluations of your personal relationship with God, and also the priority to have God and His Word at the absolute center of your children's lives and academic success plan. Based on ENOCH's Survey results, from this last ENOCH Conference in May of 2014, it seemed that a good percentage of attendees held the curriculum at more important than getting encouragement from workshops. Unfortunately, if we have been on the journey for a while, we think we go on it alone. Very dangerous!! Make purposeful plans to attend yearly events like the ENOCH Conference, that will not only help you to remember why you are doing what you do, but to instill vision on new and improved ways to assist you and your family in your pursuit of Godly Success in every part of your lives.

May God bless you and your family richly as you pursue His success!!

JUNE 2014

From the President’s Desk

Desk

Dear Friends,

This month I want to take some time out to honor a homeschool pioneer, Barbara Massa. Mrs. Massa went home to her reward on April 23. Her obituary read “Barbara Massa, 90, NJ home-schooling pioneer” and she truly was a pioneer. Mrs. Massa’s legal fight began the homeschool movement and paved the way for home schooling in New Jersey in 1962. When Mrs. Massa took her three older children out of school and decided to teach them at home, she had a high school education and relied completely on books from the library to teach them the “basic fundamentals.”

Of course, Pequannock officials, where she lived at the time, charged her and her husband “with violating New Jersey's compulsory education law”. Her case was in the courts for five years! “In State v. Massa, the court held that in educating a child at home, parents were required only to show that ‘the instruction was academically equivalent to that provided in the local public school.’ The case helped shape New Jersey policy on home schooling and is referenced on the Department of Education website.”

To add a feather in her cap, two of her children became attorneys and another became an actuary. What we enjoy in New Jersey is all thanks to Barbara Massa. Today, I want to personally commemorate her life by recognizing this hero.

I want to also thank all of you who attended the convention this year! You will be receiving a letter and survey within the week. Once you receive the survey, please fill it out and give us your opinion and honest answers. I want to encourage you to give us any ideas that can help ENOCH in the upcoming years. We will have a drawing once all the surveys are returned and the winner will receive free family admission to the 2015 convention!

Thank you all again!

MAY 2014

From the President’s Desk

May 16th and 17th 2014 is ENOCH's Annual Homeschool Convention!

Dear Friends,

We are now into the home stretch of preparations for the convention!  Come out and help make it the best convention ever.  Pre-Registration ends May 5th!  You can click here to start your on-line registration.

Remember to sign your children up for the Children’s Program when you register.  Again, this year we will be having JandY Ministry giving the presentation. Their 2014 program is “Digging for God’s Truth”. The ages for the Children’s Program are 5-12 years old! You can see the complete list of places and people that your child will be searching for and the times of each session by clicking here.  Look for pricing when you register. We have tried to keep pricing affordable, but prices do go up when you register at the door.

Check out our website for the workshop schedule and start planning whom you want to hear.  Come hear our Main Speakers - Andrew Pudewa, Diane Kummer and Liz Moore and on Saturday afternoon come here G. K. Mangelson, a Constitutional Scholar, speak on Independence Forever!  The 4 Steps to Save America. We’re thrilled to have so many great speakers with us this year!

We also would love to have you volunteer! We have over 100 volunteer slots to fill during the convention.  Volunteer for a three hour shift and choose either Early-Bird Shopping in Used Curriculum on Friday or ENOCH Bucks, which can be use like cash at most exhibitors and for workshop CDs at ENOCH Recordings!  If you have already registered and would like to volunteer, please contact Gladys Harris, our Volunteer Coordinator, at (JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address).

Don’t forget about our free iPad Mini give-away at the convention!  When you attend the convention, each family will receive a card with vendors who have sponsored the give-away.  Visit each of the vendors and listen to their presentation and they will punch your card. When you have visited all the participating vendors and turn in your card at the ENOCH booth, you will be entered into the drawing for our iPad Mini!

When you come to the convention, don’t forget to bring your Boxtops for Education and drop them off at the ENOCH Booth.  In addition, you can sign-up to get a year’s subscription to Answers in Genesis Magazine, four issues for $24.  The moneys received from both of these programs help defray some on the costs of running ENOCH throughout the year.

As always, please continue to pray for the ENOCH Board and all the convention staff as the work behind-the-scenes speeds up for the convention!

for ENOCH's Annual Homeschool Convention!

Dear Friends,

ENOCH's 24th Annual Convention is only a month and a half away!  Check out our website for the workshop schedule and start planning whom you want to hear.  Come hear our Main Speakers Andrew Pudewa, Diane Kummer and Liz Moore.  Do not forget Diane Kummer will be giving five workshops on dealing with homeschooling through high school.  If you think you cannot homeschool through those high school years, come and find out that YOU CAN!

Early-Bird Pre-Registration has now ended, but you can still register, the prices are higher now, click here  to get to the registration page.  Parents of Pre-Schoolers and Newbies are $20 for Regular Registration.  Any person you know that is interested in homeschooling who has never been to our convention or shows an interest in homeschooling should be invited for the special pricing.  Why pre-register when the price is the same at the door?  Pre-Registering helps ENOCH to plan for a number of things, one of which is how many programs to print.  Do not forget to volunteer. We have over 100 volunteer slots to fill during the convention.  Volunteer for a three hour shift and choose either Early-Bird Shopping in Used Curriculum on Friday or ENOCH Bucks, which can be use like cash at most exhibitors and for workshop CDs at ENOCH Recordings.  Teens can volunteer for a whole day, come to the convention and have their registration refunded.  We especially need teens on Friday to help in Used Curriculum.  Get involved! Help make YOUR convention a success!  Yes, YOUR convention. ENOCH puts on the convention for you!

Remember to sign-up your children for the Children’s Program when you register.  Again, this year we will be having JandY Ministry giving the presentation. Their program for this year is “Digging for God’s Truth”. The ages for the Children’s Program are 5-12 years old! Your children will be discovering God’s truths by examining Biblical, Archaeological and Historical evidence.  Have them dig for Eden, Ninevah, Bethlehem and other places in the Bible.  You can see the complete list of places and people that your child will be searching for by clicking here.  These look like some great sessions for your children.  There are two sessions on Friday and four sessions on Saturday.  Look for pricing when you register. We have tried to keep pricing affordable, but prices do go up if you register at the door.  Be sure to register early enough, last year we had to turn children away because it filled up so quickly.

Do not forget to check out our Exhibitor List and see who is coming to the convention.  We want to urge our attendees to support the vendors that attend. If you do not see your favorite exhibitor, give them a call or e-mail them.

We are offering a free iPad Mini Give-away at the convention!  When you attend the convention, each family will receive a card with vendors who have sponsored the give-away.  Visit each of the vendors and listen to their presentation and they will punch your card. When you have visited all the participating vendors you card will be entered into the drawing for an iPad Mini.

CALLING ALL HOMESCHOOL BUSINESSES, SMALL BUSINESSES, EVEN LARGE COMPANIES!!! Do you want to get you name out there to the homeschooling community?  Why not donate goods or services to the Silent Auction?  The proceeds from the Silent Auction help to defray some of the cost for the convention, and donations to ENOCH of NJ are tax deductible, click here for further information.  Be sure to check out the Silent Auction at the convention and bid on an item or two, maybe you will win!  The donation deadline is April 30th!

Register now - May 16th and 17th 2014
for ENOCH's Annual Homeschool Convention!

Dear Friends,

As I am writing this the weather has warmed up a bit, into the 50's, and the snow is melting.  I can finally see my driveway. Soon I will be able to see the rocks on the front lawn that belong in the driveway!  Even though most people at work have been saying they are glad to see the snow go, I am going to miss it.  I have always liked the winter even as I am getting older now.  It just takes a little longer to shovel the driveway early in the morning.  Soon the crocus will be blooming, the trees will be budding, and winter will be over.

Throughout this winter we have been working hard on ENOCH's 24th Annual Convention.  Check out our website for the workshop schedule and start planning whom you want to hear.  There is an article in this month’s newsletter by Andrew Pudewa. In it he mentions another article that he suggests you read. Well, he will be speaking on that topic on Friday evening - Nurturing Competent Communicators. Read the article in the newsletter and then come out to hear him speak.  Do not forget Diane Kummer will be giving five workshops on dealing with homeschooling through high school.  Over the years we have had many homeschool parents ask, "Can I really homeschool through high school?" The answer is YES, you can.  Come to the convention and hear Diane speak on this topic. Diane is HSLDA's High School Consultant.  Liz Moore, a very popular speaker from South Jersey, will be speaking on lifestyle topics that will help you at home while homeschooling. We are offering something new to close out the workshops! We have a special speaker, G.K Mangelson, a Constitutional Scholar, who will be speaking on "Independence Forever! The 4 Steps to Save America".

Registration is open, click here to get to the registration page.  Again, this year Parents of Pre-Schoolers and Newbie are $10 for Early Bird Registration. Any person you know that is interested in homeschooling who has never been to our convention or shows an interest in homeschooling should be invited for the special pricing.  Just as a reminder Early Bird Pre-Registration ends March 31st, so do not forget to register before then, prices go up April 1st! We will be sending out a reminder to everyone of the cutoff date as it approaches!  Do not forget to volunteer for the convention, we have over 100 volunteer slots to fill during the convention.  Volunteer for a three hour shift and choose either Early-Bird Shopping in Used Curriculum on Friday or ENOCH Bucks, which can be use like cash at most exhibitors and for workshop CDs at ENOCH Recordings.  ENOCH is also looking for an Assistant Exhibitor Coordinator to assist at the convention.  If you are interested in that position, please contact Michele Gross at (JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address).

Remember to sign-up your children for the Children’s Program when you register.  Again, this year we will be having JandY Ministry giving the presentation.  You can see the topics here in what they are offering this year.  These look like some great sessions for your children.  There are two sessions on Friday and four sessions on Saturday.  Look on your Registration for price. Be sure to register early enough. Last year, we had to turn children away because it filled up so quickly.

Do not forget to check out our Exhibitor List and see who is coming to the convention.  If you do not see your favorite exhibitor, give them a call or e-mail them. Let them know you would like to see them at the convention.

CALLING ALL HOMESCHOOL BUSINESSES, SMALL BUSINESSES, EVEN LARGE COMPANIES!!!  Want to get you name out there to the homeschooling community?  Why not donate goods or services to the Silent Auction?  Last year we had some great items up for auction. Help us to get even more this year.  The proceeds from the Silent Auction help to defray some of the cost for the convention, and donations to ENOCH of NJ are tax deductable, click here for further information.  Be sure to check out the Silent Auction at the convention and bid on an item or two, maybe you will win!

Please continue to pray for the ENOCH Board and all the convention staff as the work behind the scenes continues for the convention.

SAVE THE DATES- May 16th and 17th 2014
for ENOCH's Annual Homeschool Convention!

Dear Homeschool Friends,

It’s that time of year again! It is time to register for our 24th Annual Homeschool Convention, which will be held on May 16th & 17th in Edison, New Jersey! Here is the link to register with all the information you will need.

We have some remarkable main speakers lined-up - Andrew Pudewa from the Institute of Excellence in Writing (IEW), Dianne Kummer, a High School Consultant from HSLDA, and Liz Moore from Living by Nutrition.  We are also thrilled to have with us again this year JandY Ministry who will be doing our Children's Program. We have two sessions on Friday and four sessions on Saturday, with special pricing! Last year multiple sessions sold out, so register as early as you can!

Another returning feature of our convention is our Silent Auction!  There were many excellent items on auction last year and this year is shaping up to be even more terrific!  If you know of a business, large or small, that would like to get their "name" out there to the homeschooling community, please have them contact Sherry Lynne Pierro, our Silent Auction Coordinator, at (JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address).  The silent auction is a great way for them to get their product or service out there, but we also have two other options. If they are interested in advertizing in our programs or our bagging, they can go to ENOCH's Exhibitor Website, (click here), and see all the details!

Don't forget about the fantastic Used Curriculum Sale at the convention! If you are now getting into those high school years and you don't need that 5th grade math book anymore, sell it and bless another homeschooler! Check out our website for all the details on what you need to do to sell those gently used curriculum.

We like to put in articles that our main speakers have written, but we have included here a link to HSLDA's Homeschool Heartbeat where you can listen to five recent broadcasts with Michael Smith and Diane Kummer discussing how to prepare for the SAT and the ACT.  Diane is a great resource for homeschooling through those challenging, yet rewarding high school years. Come out to the convention and hear her wonderful words of encouragement and support in her sessions. You will also have a chance to speak with her at the HSLDA booth.

There it is! ENOCH is quite busy with the convention getting closer. Please be in prayer for everyone, including the Board, their families, and our staff coordinators who work behind the scenes before the convention.

Serving Him,

Rich Millward

SAVE THE DATES- May 16th and 17th 2014
for ENOCH's Annual Homeschool Convention!

"Another year is dawning,” is a hymn we sing during our Watch Night Service, New Year's Eve, at church. This was originally written as a poem by the author, Frances Ridley Havergal, to friends in January 1874 as a New Year's greeting.  It is a now a beautiful hymn of consecration for the New Year. It is part of the first line – "Another Year is dawning; dear Father, let it be..." – that was the thought for this month’s article.

Another year is dawning at midnight - whether you are in church or watching the ball drop in Times Square or asleep - another year will begin. What will it hold? Great joy? Encouragement? Trials? Disappointments?  What about those “aha” moments when your teen finally gets the algebra concept? Maybe your third grader finds the joys of reading. Maybe it is a few tears shed as your last child finishes homeschooling. Or it is a sickness or the death of a loved one? Who knows?  Whatever it brings, we know Him who holds tomorrow. "Dear Father, let it be...” as the song goes, another year of working, waiting, progress, praise, mercies, faithfulness, leaning on Him, service. As we go through 2014, let us look to the Father above, for His grace and mercy when we fail, His encouragement when we struggle and His love toward us all the time.  As this New Year begins, let us encourage one another, pray for one another and not just at the beginning, but the whole year through.  The Board of ENOCH greatly appreciates your prayers this coming and your words of encouragement. It helps us to get through those difficult times.

Here is a suggestion - why not have one of your children write a paper on Frances Ridley Havergal? She wrote hundreds of poems and hymns, she was an accomplished pianist and vocalist, proficient in seven languages, and possessed a keen mind (memorized the entire New Testament, Psalms, Isaiah, and the Minor Prophets). You may be surprised by what they learn.

Some announcements for 2014 - we are pleased to announce another one of our main speakers for the 2014convention - Diane Kummer, from HSLDA.  Diane is one of HSLDA's High School Consultants and will be speaking on a variety of topics dealing with homeschooling during those high school years.  ENOCH is contacted throughout the year on questions about homeschooling through high school. Many parents are not sure what to do, how to have proper recordkeeping, even a transcript can be an issue. Diane is a wealth of information and encouragement when you think - "Can I homeschool all the way through high school?" The answer is “Yes, you can!”  Come to the convention and hear Diane share her own experience as she homeschooled her two children through high school.

Andrew Pudewa, from the Institute of Excellence in Writing (IEW), is one of our other main speakers.  JandY Ministry will again be doing the Children's Program at this year's convention.  Sign-up early as their sessions filled up quickly and last year we had to turn people away.  Speaking of sign-in up early - Early Bird Registration for ENOCH's 2014 Convention opens February 1st!

Happy New Year!

Let Every Day Be Christmas
by Norman Wesley Brooks

Christmas is forever, not for just one day,
for loving, sharing, giving, are not to put away
like bells and lights and tinsel, in some box upon a shelf.
The good you do for others is good you do yourself.

Peace on Earth, good will to men,
kind thoughts and words of cheer,
are things we should use often
and not just once a year.

Remember too the Christ-child, grew up to be a man;
to hide him in a cradle, is not our dear Lord's plan.
So keep the Christmas spirit, share it with others far and near,
from week to week and month to month, throughout the entire year!

The Board of Officers of ENOCH of NJ wishes you and your family a Merry Christmas and a happy and healthy New Year.

In His Service,
Richard Millward

Thanks to God for my Redeemer,
Thanks for all Thou dost provide!
Thanks for times now but a memory,
Thanks for Jesus by my side!
Thanks for pleasant, balmy springtime,
Thanks for dark and stormy fall!
Thanks for tears by now forgotten,
Thanks for peace within my soul!

Thanks for prayers that Thou hast answered,
Thanks for what Thou dost deny!
Thanks for storms that I have weathered,
Thanks for all Thou dost supply!
Thanks for pain, and thanks for pleasure,
Thanks for comfort in despair!
Thanks for grace that none can measure,
Thanks for love beyond compare!

Thanks for roses by the wayside,
Thanks for thorns their stems contain!
Thanks for home and thanks for fireside,
Thanks for hope, that sweet refrain!
Thanks for joy and thanks for sorrow,
Thanks for heav’nly peace with Thee!
Thanks for hope in the tomorrow,
Thanks through all eternity!

Dear Friends,

This is one of my favorite Thanksgiving hymns, written by August Storm in 1891. Carl E. Backstrom translated it from Swedish into English in 1931.  As we enter this month of Thanksgiving, let us be thankful for all that the Lord provides by His hand of mercy.  Let us also continue to remember in prayer all those in our state who are still suffering from the devastation from Superstorm Sandy.  Just this week a family in our church had their house torn down. In addition, as I drive to work in Union Beach, there are still so many damaged homes and empty lots.  My heart really goes out to these people, let us remember them in prayer and do something if you can.

Just a few reminders: (1) ENOCH has recently begun package BoxTops for Education.  Please mail in your boxtops to ENOCH of NJ, P.O. Box 308, Atlantic Highlands, NJ 07716.  (2) We are looking for an Assistant Exhibitor Coordinator for the convention.  If you are interested, please e-mail Michele Gross at (JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address).  Finally, ENOCH now has a group page on Facebook, you can find us at ENOCH of NJ.

"Thanks for hope in the tomorrow, Thanks through all eternity!"

Happy Thanksgiving,
